When developing its latest line of glass processing machines, B Solution chose Bonfiglioli to develop a complete solution covering the entire drive train – from the gearbox to the motion controller

ased in Italy, B Solution has, for over 30 years, been manufacturing sophisticated glass processing machines for tasks such


as the grinding and edging of double-glazed windows and tempered glass. When building its latest machine series – the Speed Arris – the company wanted to improve productivity and efficiency. To do this, however, it wanted to use a partner who could not only supply the required components but one that would be able to demonstrate the know-how for optimised design and commissioning. It was, in effect, looking not only for a supplier, but a competent partner with whom it could go the whole way together – from the design of new machines to implementation and commissioning. For the company, partnership means, among


other things, co-engineering – for example, exchange of experience but also sharing existing resources and capabilities. Bonfiglioli met the customer’s expectations both in technical terms and due to its high service levels. Together with B Solution, Bonfiglioli improved


the current application by co-designing the loading cycle, improving speed. In addition, the production cycle was improved by adding new helpful functions, and the unloading cycle was optimised with the installation of a double conveyor.

To meet the requirements, Bonfiglioli developed a customised solution featuring the high- performance BMC 440 motion controller, the powerful yet compact ANG servo inverter, the high-quality BMD servo motor, and the low-backlash TR precision planetary gearbox from its Performance Line. According to the company, the integral drive solution led to a 15% increase in machine performance. In particular, the project focused on two


machine processing modes of the new Speed Arris: seaming and rough grinding of glass. With improved and innovative functionalities, the new machine offers faster start-up thanks

to simplified and improved organisation of the machine parameters. Furthermore, the machine’s user-friendly and intuitive HMI has greatly simplified configuration; while the use of the ISO code for a direct link with the design language and an immediate translation into precise machine movements allows easy production of the desired shape. motion controller is said to offer high- performance, especially in terms of axis synchronisation. According to the company, it represents the optimal solution for complex – up to 24-axis – applications. The Speed Arris also has an ‘On-Fly Load’


concept, which means that the operator only has to place the glass sheets on the loading belt. This mode of operation requires a very high level of axis synchronisation to ensure high-quality processing of the glass. Another advantage comes from the reliability and ease of use of the motion control functions. Axis coupling is designed to facilitate programming and reduce errors. This results in time savings during application coding. The BMC 440

BMC 440 allows access to Motion features in combination with the ANG (Active Next Generation) servo drives, and it is ideal for performing complex movements with accurate synchronisation. Its OPC-UA and MQTT functionality ensure local and remote connectivity with full responsiveness to the needs of digital integration for smart manufacturing.


Servo SyStem


The ANG servo inverter series has been specifically designed by Bonfiglioli to provide higher performance to machine builders. This has several special firmware features that add value to the application, such as the Touch Probe function, which is mandatory for the On-Fly Load system mentioned above.
