RIGID COUPLINGS SUIT fOOD EqUIPmENT PRODUCTS CLUTCHES, BRAKES & COUPLINGS

Available in the UK from Acorn Industrial Services, Ruland’s (www.ruland.com) rigid couplings have high torque capacity, accuracy and repeatability, which is said to make them the ideal choice for food equipment. Straight bore rigid couplings are manufactured with precision

honed bores for concentricity to ensure the coupling does not introduce misalignment or vibration into the system. Ruland supplies clamp type rigid couplings with the proprietary Nypatch anti-vibration coating to prevent screws from loosening during operation. Nypatch is a 360-degree coating applied to several screw threads, allowing for multiple screw insertions and providing the necessary dissimilar material to prevent

galling on stainless steel type couplings. The company manufactures rigid couplings in 1215 lead-free steel with a proprietary black oxide finish for

general purpose food applications, 2024 aluminium for low inertia, and 303 stainless steel for sanitised environments. Two-piece rigid couplings have a balanced design for reduced vibration and improved system performance. Rigid couplings are available in one- and two-piece clamp and set screw styles with inch

or metric bores in straight or step configurations, providing a variety of standard options to choose from. Bore sizes range from 1/8in to 2in and 3-50mm. Special configurations such as no cross-cut, 316 stainless, and inch-to-metric bores are available on request.

Acorn Industrial Services www.acorn-ind.co.uk high performance brake pads

Automotive brake pads, designed to bridge the gap between outstanding braking performance and high-end comfort, have been launched by FERODO. The result of more than three years of intensive research and development, the Fuse+ Technology brake pads feature a highly advanced new friction material that combines the high-performance braking power of low-steel formulations and the comfort- intensive characteristics of non-asbestos organic (NAO) materials. The pads feature a combination of more than 20 precisely engineered components that

work together to deliver unsurpassed braking performance; and include the company’s zero-copper Eco Friction Technology, which reduces dusting and cuts pad emissions by 60%. FERODO Fuse+ Technology brake pads are available immediately for almost 100

premium-level vehicle models from Europe’s premier automakers, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. Each set of pads is packaged complete with all required accessories to ensure fast and easy installation.

FERODO www.ferodo.com a screw coupling for high pressure applications

Developed by DNP Industriale Srl and available in the UK from Bonomi, is a PVS Screw Coupling designed for high pressure (72 MPa) applications.

Manufactured to ISO 14540 standards, the

couplings are designed for heavy-duty tasks, and their strength is a high working pressure, particularly in static conditions. According to the company,

the coupling’s sealing in the disconnection phase is mechanical, without gaskets, and therefore adaptable to any type of fluid and temperature. The preferred size for high pressure situations is generally ISO 6.3 (1/4)

but, with the upper ISO 10 (3/8) size, PVS Screw Couplings offer more flow while maintaining

the pressure characteristics of ISO 6.3. The simplicity of these couplings allows

connection by hand, even with residual pressure, whilst DNP technology developed over 35 years guarantees mechanical sealing of the valves – a traditional weak point – without loss of fluid even at high static pressures, where traditional gaskets would fail. Typical user applications are said by the

company to include equipment requiring precise control of high-level power.

When quick and accurate holding is required, spring

applied and permanent magnet brakes are known for their reliable, fail-safe, braking capability. Spring applied brakes transmit torque through pressure generated by built-in springs, while the holding force in a permanent magnet brake is created by multiple permanent magnets attracting a single face armature. Paul Short, technical manager at SG Transmission,

explained: “While a hybrid permanent magnet and spring applied brake provides significant benefits, the design complexity and unpredictability of the two interacting magnetic fields have prevented this concept from previously being explored. “In addition to the innovative design, the customer required

a ‘plug and play’ solution which presented an additional challenge due to its small, compact design, and limited axial length. So far, we have successfully supplied three versions of the brake in various sizes.”

hyBRID pERmAnEnt mAgnEt AnD SpRIng ApplIED BRAKE cREAtED FOR SURgIcAl ROBOtS

A permanent magnet and spring applied hybrid brake has been developed by SG Transmission for a range of next generation small, multi-axis, surgical robots manufactured by a leading European robotic innovator. This type of brake is believed to be the first of its kind in the world. Due to the critical nature of the application, a pre-

assembled solution was designed with both spring applied and permanent magnet technology to offer double redundant capability in the event of a failure. The hybrid solution offers the benefits from both technologies, combining the high torque and backlash-free capability of a permanent magnet brake, with the extended temperature range of a spring applied brake.
