IN CHARGE OF PRODUCT DESIGN To gain greater control of its product
development, UK EV charging provider EVBox turned to Arena PLM from PTC

This has seen the introduction of the EVBox Liviqo for commercial settings, EVBox Livo for residential, and the EVBox Troniq Modular for public and fast charging in heavily populated areas. All the solutions are powered by intelligent
software, are designed to be aesthetically pleasing, and feature a simple to use interface. “Thanks to PTC we have now a ‘single
source of truth’ for all our current charging solutions and the ones currently in development – that is such a big advantage for our business,” said Whitacre. A team of 50 is now using Arena every day.
In addition to the product and supply chain features, several of them are now exploring how to get the most out of the quality management capabilities built into the platform. Jon Hirschtick, EVP at PTC, commented:

But while half a million is an impressive statistic in its first thirteen years of operation, the company needed to ramp up production to meet its aim of supplying one million electric charging options by 2025. So in order to gain greater control over its
product development and support the roll-out of new charging innovations, the company turned to Arena PLM from PTC. PTC provides a host of technology solutions to help industrial companies create value through the use of Augmented Reality, Industrial IoT, Product Lifecycle Management, and CAD solutions.
INTRODUCING ARENA PLM EVBox was carrying out a lot of its design and development processes manually, but with a number of new product introductions due to be added, a new solution was needed. Steven Whitacre, senior programme
manager at EVBox, explained: “We needed a Product Lifecycle Management system that could manage all of the different bills of materials (BOMs) and make them accessible in real time to all the different stakeholders, no matter where they were in the world.” He continued: “This is exactly what PTC’s Arena
solution delivered, with its SaaS platformbringing product information, people and processes into a single cloud-native system to speed up new product development whilst still effectively managing our cost base.”

SOFTWARE ACCELERATES CAM PROGRAMMING TIME BY 80%, RAISING PRODUCTIVITY
CloudNC has introduced CAM Assist, a new software solution that automates strategy creation in CAM packages and greatly accelerates CAM programming time. Currently available as a plug-in within Autodesk’s Fusion 360 software platform, CAM Assist uses advanced computer science techniques to generate professional machining strategies for 3-axis parts in seconds, something that could take CNC machine programmers hours or even days to manually create. This means the amount of time it takes to program a CNC machine to make a component is reduced by up to 80%. Theo Saville, founder of CloudNC, said: “CAM Assist is the biggest paradigm shift for the precision
manufacturing sector in decades. By making CAM programmers faster, CAM Assist enables manufacturers to increase machine uptime, slash lead times, improve process stability, and upskill staff to become expert machinists more quickly. These advances will re-energise precision manufacturing companies struggling with rising costs, ageing workforces and competition from globalisation – shortening supply chains and keeping the costs of everything down for us all.” CAM Assist uses advanced computational optimisation and AI inference techniques to rapidly
determine a professional strategy and toolset needed to manufacture a part, along with the most appropriate cutting speeds and feeds fromthe user’s library. As a result, a Fusion 360 user can today upload a 3Dmodel of a 3-axis component and the software determines the bestmilling tools needed from those available, and how they will be used. In seconds, CAM Assist drafts the code required to instruct a CNC machine how to make it, within the user’s existing CAM platform. Saville added: “The UK is missing out on £21million a day in lost output because of the
manufacturing skills gap, as we do not have the skilled labour to make the components we need. CAM Assist is the solution to that problem – it frees up time for senior programmers, and helps unskilled workers get up to speed far faster. If you’re a workshop owner, it’s what you’ve been looking for: it allows someone who’s never previously used Fusion 360 before to start making components on the day of first use, all within an existing CAM package.”
