ADVERTORIAL TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION

Smiths Interconnect expands its high-speed rugged D-Sub connector Series

technically differentiated electronic components, subsystems, microwave and radio frequency products, announced the introduction of the innovative split pair quadrax contact technology to its rugged D- Sub connector Series.

S The split pair quadrax is the next generation contact

that provides robust high-speed performance compatible with existing qualified rugged D-Sub connectors.

The new extended range meets the high-speed application requirements of the Space and Mil/Aero markets. These demands include the ability to reliably transmit and receive 10 Gbps and beyond with a stable characteristic impedance of 100 Ω and compliance to all MIL-STD-202 requirements for shock and vibration.

“Smiths Interconnect’s rugged, reliable and high-

performance solution is ideal for applications requiring high speed data transfer under extreme environmental exposure.” said Paul Harris, VP Sales and Marketing.

Industrial cameras with fast interfaces

he 16 new compact industrial cameras (BVS CA) in the Smart Vision Solutions line from Balluff give you great flexibility in image recording and high transmission speed of image information for mastering even highly

complex inspection tasks. They are available with a monochrome or colour image sensor and for fast data transmission with optional GigE-

Vision or USB3-Vision interface. Programming is according to the GEN<i>CAM-standard (Generic Interface for Cameras). These compact cameras can be efficiently used in either of two ways. Either by access using common image

editing software together with a separate industrial PC for data processing, or using the external SmartController from Balluff that runs the proven Balluff BVS-Cockpit software. With these industrial cameras the user benefits not only from perfectly resolved and tack sharp images, but also from a very high data transmission rate. The data results are passed from the controller via a freely definable interface to the control system through the

standard interfaces TCP/IP, TCP UDP or PROFINET. A clever interface concept ensures correct addressing and distribution of the information: if needed, with just the click of a mouse the process network - the heart of any automation company - gets only the most important information, whereas data and images, e.g. for quality services, find their way over a fast Gigabit Ethernet network. The web-based product access enables remote access even from distant production facilities.

SICK Re-invents the Lightgrid as a Versatile “Light Chain”

ICK has reinvented the lightgrid as a versatile “light chain” of cascading photoelectric sensors. The FlexChain detection system is a completely new way of configuring light grids that offers unprecedented freedom for automated plant and machinery applications.

S With SICK FlexChain up to 60 sensors can be

daisy-chained together in a single line topology and connected to a compact FlexChain host. The cost-saving ‘mix and match’ concept allows engineers to build their own light grids via a web selection tool and to individually space through-beam, reflex and proximity sensors as needed, with minimal cabling and installation. It is easy to add more sensors at a later stage. Push-button commissioning is quick and easy via the FlexChain host and using individual sensors enables a high level of diagnostic information to be available at all times, with maximum detection reliability. “Where conventional light grids are limited

by fixed send- and receive profiles, and multiple sensor arrays require individual cabling and risk cross-talk interference if positioned too close together, the SICK FlexChain now offers the best of both worlds,” explains David Hannaby, SICK’s UK product manager for presence detection. “In addition, a FlexChain can be over 60 metres long - which is very big for a lightgrid.”

“FlexChain offers a new way of thinking with higher ROIs in common automated light grid applications, such as width and height classification and object differentiation in materials handling, continuous- and sheet feeding systems, or overhang detection in pallet loading.” The SICK FlexChain system offers the benefits of lightgrid detection with sequential triggering of every beam, but,

unlike a conventional lightgrid, positioning the sensors individually makes it possible to vary the beam separation to suit the application. Measuring ranges and detection zones of different widths can be set up for each task.
