Lenze, a global leader in
motion-centric automation,
announces the launch of the i650 motec, the latest
addition to its decentralised frequency inverter portfolio
SMART, EFFICIENT AND DECENTRALISED DRIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE DIGITAL ERA
D
esigned for next-level performance, the new i650 motec from Lenze sets a new benchmark in energy efficiency, digital
readiness, and ease of use – empowering machine builders to design smarter, greener systems with unprecedented simplicity. Building on the robust foundation of the i550
motec, the i650 motec introduces a suite of enhanced features. These include an integrated
Logic PLC, advanced positioning functionality, and scalable safety capabilities. Together, they transform the inverter from a drive component into a complete, intelligent solution capable of operating stand-alone applications – reducing the need for centralised PLCs, lowering integration costs, and simplifying machine architecture.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY ENGINEERED FOR THE FUTURE The i650 motec exemplifies Lenze’s commitment to sustainable innovation. Thanks to its regenerative feedback capability, energy otherwise lost is now efficiently recovered and fed back into the system. Combined with intelligent dimensioning

via the EASY System Designer and compatibility with Lenze’s high-efficiency m550 motor and g500 gearbox, the solution enables energy savings of up to 30%.
BUILT FOR THE SMART FACTORY Digitalisation is seamlessly embedded into the i650 motec’s DNA. The integrated IO-Link master eliminates the need for additional hardware, while the drive’s real-time data capabilities – via the Drive Datahub – support predictive maintenance and process transparency. With its digital nameplate, essential product data is always available, even before commissioning.
PLUG-AND-PLAY SIMPLICITY MEETS INDUSTRIAL VERSATILITY The i650 motec simplifies installation and connection through intuitive M12 push-pull connectors. It also has an integrated single- cable solution for the 400V power and the 24V controls supply. Its sensorless control for synchronous motors enhances performance across demanding applications such as airport logistics, conveyor systems, and energy- efficient pump operations. Additionally, the i650 motec supports a broad
range of safety functions – from STO via CIP Safety to optional advanced features like Safe Brake Control and Safe Limited Speed. These are available across major industrial communication protocols, including Profinet-Profisafe, EtherCAT- FSoE, and Ethernet-IP with CIP Safety. Mark Turner, application manager Lenze UK,
explains: “The i650 motec isn’t just a drive – it’s a key enabler for building the machines of tomorrow. With its modular intelligence, energy- efficient design, and digital capabilities, it empowers our customers to optimise operations while stepping confidently into Industry 4.0.”
