BSEE Advertorial

Luceco has recently provided energy ecient LED lighng for school facilies within the remit of Harrow Council including Whitchurch Primary and Nursery School and Kenmore Park Junior and Infant School.

Whitchurch Primary and Nursery School required cost-effective LED lighting to replace fluorescent fittings that were no longer fit for purpose. An economic solution had to be found to meet budget requirements. Luceco suggested a retrofit, energy saving lighting solution using the linear Academy luminaire installed on the existing lighting track which was in good order. This solution met the budget constraints and the energy saving luminaires achieved an attractive return on investment.

The lighting refurbishment was partially funded by the Salix scheme. Established in 2004, Salix Finance Ltd delivers 100% interest-free capital to the public sector to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their carbon emissions with loans for energy efficiency projects.

Other luminaries installed included Luceco’s Celeste, an attractive circular LED luminaire

with a ‘corona’ backlight effect and a direct/indirect light distribution. The luminaire can be surface, wall mounted, or suspended – as at Whitchurch Primary and Nursery School – using a 3 point 1.5-m suspension kit, creating an attractive pendant.

Celeste offers up to 50,000 hours working life with no maintenance or re-lamping requirements which benefits the environment in terms of energy efficiency and lamp disposal.

Kenmore Park Junior and Infant School also benefited from Salix funding and used Academy throughout their lighting refurbishment. Designed for surface mounting in office and educational environments, Academy is an ideal replacement for linear fluorescent fittings provider a maintenance free 50,000 hours operational life.

Based upon its experience and recommendations, Q-Park awarded FES a contract in May 2018 to provide a full turnkey solution that incorporates all elements of the implementation process – from survey and design, to installation, commissioning and maintenance.

Thought to be the largest ever individual project of its kind within Europe, it will rollout across seven countries and be completed by December 2019. The rollout will be conducted simultaneously across the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and Denmark, and comprises more than 200 sites and around 100,000 installed luminaires.

uFuture Energy Soluons will supply, install and maintain LED lighng technology for QPark.

Q-Park goes beyond the minimum European lighting requirements for its parking facilities, as it believes that enhanced lighting offers a more welcoming and safer atmosphere for their customers.

In order to ensure that high standards are maintained, FES thoroughly selected leading

international LED luminaire manufacturers to supply an efficient and best in class solution, alongside localised installation and maintenance providers in each of the seven countries. Peter Mertens, Corporate Manager Real Estate at Q-Park, explained: “Optimising our installed base in those parking facilities where energy efficiency can be improved through LED lighting, brings multiple advantages, such as an improved lighting experience, energy savings as well as carbon footprint and maintenance cost reductions.

“The currently available LED products offer us these benefits, which is why we decided to transform the light systems in over 200 of our parking facilities across the aforementioned seven countries. Our objective is to achieve a minimum 40 per cent reduction on our addressable energy load on lighting across our parking facilities.”

Blue ID BEMS (building energy management system) technology from Priva is proving central to the success of a major energy recovery centre near Bristol.

Priva Blue ID BEMS selected for major energy recovery centre

Priva Blue ID will optimise energy usage at every level of the Severnside Energy Recovery Centre, Avonmouth, which is in its final build stages. The centre will be capable of processing up to 400,000 tonnes of non-recycled waste, with capacity to generate up to 34MW of electricity. The concept will also generate heating for the entire building.

Delivered by owner Sita UK, the facility will provide new treatment and recovery operations to manage residual household waste from West London. SCS Group was tasked with providing the BEMS for the heating, chilled and hot water systems, ventilation and five air-handling unit plants, with every office having independent fan coil unit) control. SCS was appointed by VVB Engineering, working for main construction contractor Sir Robert McAlpine, which in turn is carrying out the work for its client Hitachi Zosen Inova AG.

SCS recommended Priva Blue ID for this landmark project. This cost-effective and modular BEMS

combines reliable hardware and intuitive software – helping buildings to perform better. The hardware comprises a base on which individual functional modules, containing all mission-critical components, can be installed allowing the controller modules to be selected according to requirements. Integration to other devices can be easily achieved.

With the design of the BEMS approved, VVB tasked SCS with supplying damper monitoring and natural ventilation packages. The latter regulates temperature within the process plant, which is critical to its operation. This functionality was duly integrated into the Priva Blue ID BEMS package for full control and monitoring. A fully integral, bespoke graphics system has also been provided.

Ultimately, the combination of expertise from SCS and technology from Priva will add value and optimise energy usage at every level of the new facility.

associations with the royal family since Queen Victoria’s time, until it was closed in the 1960s. After closure, it was opened as a tourist attraction but badly damaged by a fire in 2015. A £3m restoration project was launched, supported by the Prince of Wales and a number of organisations, including the Duke of

Rothesay’s Dumfries House Trust. The AirMaster units are providing tempered fresh air to visitors in the ‘Visit Scotland’ presentation area and a large, adjacent library. The

exceptionally quiet operation of the AirMaster units was therefore a critical factor in their choice for this project.

Annually recommended servicing and adjustment to current operations via 1 x Orbit control panel per AirMaster unit can be achieved without interrupting visiting hours as access to the units is from adjacent storage rooms.
