construction industry today and has been awarded Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold. Richard Drew, Group Managing Director from

installers Gill Insulation commented: “The big advantage with Kooltherm Pipe Insulation

is you can keep thicknesses to a minimum without any trade off in performance. That reduction in size can make a real difference when you’re working in tight service spaces. Our experienced team were able to complete a streamlined fitout process on the Advanced Manufacturing Building. As ever, Kingspan were on hand to provide any technical support when we required it.”

RAUTITAN chosen for modern riverside development in York

housing development being built in the historic city of York. Currently under construction on a

brownfield site, Hungate is York’s newest residential quarter. Once complete, the complex will provide more than 1,000 apartments, all designed to the highest specifications. Hungate is being developed by Lendlease, a leading international property and infrastructure group with operations in Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Building services consultants TÜV SÜD

were enlisted in the third phase of the Hungate scheme to ensure the newest apartment blocks would be operationally efficient.

TÜV SÜD has updated the specification

for the scheme’s plumbing pipework, having worked closely with its nominated contractors Genlec Ltd, on a new polymer pipework package featuring REHAU’s RAUTITAN product. Paul Thompson, Area Sales Manager

from REHAU, visited Colin and the TÜV SÜD team at their offices and gave them a full product demonstration. Colin was impressed with the quality and ease of installation that RAUTITAN offered. Colin said: “The ease of installation was a

real selling point for us. The contractors could fit it very quickly, bending the flexible pipe around obstructions rather than having to dogleg as you would with rigid copper pipework. With so many apartments to fit the drinking water and heating pipework in, we recognised the huge potential for time savings across a large construction project.”

customers for energy efficient products, Light Efficient Design UK is taking LED lighting to new levels of energy and emissions performance. The company’s new an allin one solarpowered solution features a solar panel and battery integrated directly into the LED fixture. There is no need for trenching or wiring as the fixture does not connect to any power feed. Designed for use in such

applications as outdoor car parks, transit shelters and bus stops, the fixture turns on at night automatically and can be set to either stay at 100% light output, or dim down if there is no motion in order to extend battery life. The longlife advanced new LiFePO4 battery lasts at least 2000 charge

cycles and provides sufficient power for three nights with a one day charge. There are two 5000K models available with the 8W version replacing up to 70W MH, and the 30W up to 250W MH. Both allow light adjustment and the solar panel can be positioned to maximize sunlight and enable snow to slide off. A

programmable, remotely controlled motion sensor is also included.

Low maintenance is assured with a 50,000 hour rated lamp life and products are backed by a five year enclosed fitting warranty. Light Efficient Design UK’s Newbury based warehouse offers prompt delivery to UK/Ireland electrical wholesalers on all Light Efficient Design retrofit LED products.

Norpass3 access control software provides high degree of security and personnel safety

Compared to copper pipework,

RAUTITAN offers considerable time savings during installation. There is no ‘hot work’, no cutting and soldering pipes to navigate around obstructions and the joints take less than 30 seconds to complete. As the pipework can be used for both drinking water and hot water, contractors only need to buy one type of pipe. Another selling point for TÜV SÜD was the EVERLOC compression sleeve joint system. Lengths of RAUTITAN are joined together using the compression sleeve joint system, which is very simple and quick to do using a RAUTOOL device. This system produces a guaranteed permanently sealed joint without the need for Orings, which can degrade over time and cause leaks. Colin said: “It was vital we installed

pipework that could stand the test of time. The RAUTITAN comes in longer lengths, so there’s no need for joints above the ceiling, and with the compression sleeve jointing system, we know the failure rate for the joints is zero.” For more information about RAUTITAN

ericon Systems, a leading provider of innovative

building management systems and technologies, has launched EmeRed, an intelligent device that automates the process of testing emergency lighting to ensure they are working when needed and to help facilities managers comply with the relevant health & safety legislation. The intelligent device, which can be easily retrofitted, reimagines how new technology can be created to improve safety, ensure compliance, and reduce costs. EmeRed monitors the performance of every light and automatically transmits the results to a dedicated portal that can be accessed online, via the cloud. This gives facilities managers, estate managers and property owners complete visibility of the status of individual lights in a single building, as well as performance trends across an entire portfolio. Bernard Cook, Managing Director of Vericon Systems, believes the

industry has been too slow to adapt to new technology and new thinking: “Testing emergency lighting equipment is an important responsibility, but manual testing is often a timeconsuming and therefore costly job. Using EmeRed’s smart technologies and machine learning to automate emergency lighting testing can save buildings and facilities managers valuable time and money, especially in comparison to manual testing.
