SPONSORS WHAT’S NEW Aermec announces high efficiency watercooled chiller L
eading air conditioning manufacturer Aermec (UK) Limited, has launched a new water cooled chiller that offers energy efficiency
even at partial loads. “Aermec is continually pushing the added value
envelope and this latest chiller is no exception. The WMG shows how innovative design harnessed with environmental considerations can provide customers with greener solutions that are also cost effective,” says Paul Lawrence Managing Director for Aermec (UK). The WMG is a compact chiller that is designed
for indoor installation. It has high efficiency two stage magnetic levitation centrifugal compressors, which allow the refrigerant circuit
to be oil free. It also has a very low starting current and uses 50% less refrigerant thanks to its patented spray technology within the heat exchanger. In addition, the WMG delivers savings on installation and maintenance. Buildings can present a number of challenges when it comes to replacing chillers. The WMG’s modular design and component layout simplifies installations. The units are five times lighter than screw compressors and they can be transported through doorways and into lifts.

Room temperature control part of new energy performance directive
requirements for new buildings, and existing buildings when heat generators are replaced, under the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). All EU member states, including the UK, will have 20 months to implement the new Directive into their national legislation. Gareth Ash, Marketing Manager for

heating products manufacturer Danfoss, welcomes the new requirements, which he says recognise the energy saving value of low cost, short payback solutions like TRVs. “This is good news for the industry and endusers,” he says. “Properly selected and installed, TRVs are proven to provide accurate temperature control in individual rooms, reducing heating

lmhurst Energy, the energy performance assessment specialist and the UK’s largest accreditation body for
energy assessors, has launched (updated) its free insurance cover for members. Trained and qualified energy assessors
who are accredited with a government approved accreditation scheme would typically have to arrange Professional Indemnity (PI) and Public Liability (PL) insurance in order to cover the work they do as an energy assessor. However, all Elmhurst Energy accredited
members do not need to spend time or money arranging often expensive third party PI and PL insurance to lodge reports and certificates, this is included free of charge when certificates are lodged with Elmhurst Energy, and from July 2018 the cover has been increased to £10m; the sum often demanded by public sector clients.
itting Individual room temperature controls such as thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) is among a number of
costs and enhancing comfort for consumers. They are also quick and easy to fit in new or retrofit installations,
which is another important benefit for installers and their customers.” A review of existing energy efficiency
Directives found that relatively low cost energy efficiency solutions, such as hydraulic balancing of the heating system and the installation or replacement of thermostatic control valves, were insufficiently considered.

T
roadshow had a football theme, with events staged at iconic football grounds. David Dunn, managing director of sales for
Toshiba Air Conditioning in the UK, said: “Having looked in detail at the current options, we believe R32 is a good option as the industry makes the transition away from higher Global Warming Potential (GWP) R410A refrigerant. R32 is less expensive and better for the environment than higher GWP options.” He added: “Our priority is to ensure the highest
standards of safety for all Toshiba installations, and to this end we will support customers through this transition to ensure it is done as safely and cost effectively as possible.” Toshiba’s Super Digital Inverter (SDi) and Digital
Inverter (Di) are now available precharged with R32, while R410Abased equipment will continue to be sold until existing stock runs out. Toshiba will continue to supply its awardwinning SMMSe and SHRMe Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems on R410A, which is currently the most suitable refrigerant
for use with large distributed systems. Elmhurst has also gone one step further
and now covers its members for 'verbal, non binding' energy efficiency advice, giving members peace of mind when helping to explain to building owners the meaning of data and recommendations included in the energy certificate “Our enhanced insurance offering means

he XL Series is part of ATAG Commercial’s highly efficient range of gasfired boilers, boasting impressive performance, high quality and
reliable engineering, plus flexible cascade arrangements. XL boilers are available in outputs of 60kW, 95kW and 120kW, with all models achieving best in class NOx emissions less than 30mg/kWh – offering maximum BREEAM points. Commenting on the range’s continued popularity, Paul Martin, National Sales Manager at ATAG Commercial, said: “XL Series boilers are quick and simple to install, plus there are a wide number of sizes and potential configurations available. With such wealth of options to choose
from, units remain high in demand among installers and specifiers alike, as no matter how much space there is in a plant room, there will always be an XL boiler configuration suitable for the application in hand.” With options for wall mounted inline, free
standing inline and backtoback arrangements, the ATAG XL boiler can be fitted in a wide range of modular installations, comprising two to eight boilers. Plus, XL boilers are equipped with connections for flue gas and air inlet (parallel tubes), allowing for both open and room sealed arrangements.

Laser rangefinder TOLMD X60 from TOOLCRAFT
onrad Business Supplies has added the laser rangefinder TOLMD X60 from TOOLCRAFT to its range of measurement tools. “Measuring instruments such as measuring
tapes or folding rulers are long gone. Today, professional users work with modern laser rangefinders such as the TOLMD X60, measuring distances from 0.05 to 60m and with an accuracy of ±2mm. The distance can be read directly from its 2inch monochrome display,” explains Andreas Wolf, Product Marketing Specialist Tools & Garden at Conrad Business Supplies. The TOLMD X60 is calibrated to a factory
standard (without certificate) and protected against splashing water and dust in accordance with IP65. A drop from 2m high leaves the device unscathed. With these features, the laser rangefinder is ideal for use on construction sites as well as for small businesses or in other harsh environments. The feature set of the TOLMD X60 covers distance measurement,
volume calculation, area calculation, indirect measurement (Pythagoras) as well as addition and subtraction functions. Further measurement options include continuous measurement, angle finder function, auto plane detection and automatic height measurement. Up to 20 measurements can be stored in the internal memory of the
TOLMD X60 so that users can still obtain measurements from on the day or the day before.
