VEGA AND VARIBOX BRING TRANSPARENCY TO CHEMICAL MANAGEMENT

hen storing and processing chemicals in intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), the current level is a key piece of information. However, with

closed, double-walled IBCs, it is impossible to tell from the outside how much liquid medium is in the container. Together with the Dutch IBC manufacturer VARIBOX, VEGA has developed a solution that provides exactly this needed transparency. VARIBOX IBCs, like the FC 1000 and the compact FC 250, are designed for the safe handling of acids, alkalis and cleaning agents. Their double- wall construction also serves as an integrated containment pan, protecting people, products and the environment. However, this also makes it difficult to monitor the level during operation. VEGA addresses this by leveraging the advantages of 80-GHz radar technology. The radar waves penetrate the plastic wall of the container and detect the surface of the medium through reflection. The sensor is mounted on the outside of the IBC. The container remains sealed, preventing contamination and ensuring the sensor does not come into contact with aggressive media. “The deployed radar sensor has the advantage that it measures right through the plastic layers of the VARIBOX,” explains Torben Pfeffer, VARIBOX DACH

account manager. “The container doesn’t need to be opened, so there is no risk of contamination.” Another advantage: The sensor is not attached to the individual container, but to the dispensing station. When an empty IBC is replaced with a full one, the measuring equipment remains in place. This means that, in many applications, a single measuring instrument per dispensing station is sufficient. For mobile or hard-to-reach containers, the autonomous VEGAPULS Air 41 sensor is used. It transmits measured values to VEGA Inventory System via NB-IoT, LTE-M or LoRaWAN. There, the level is visualised and consumption documented, allowing refills to be planned more effectively. For stationary applications with direct system integration, VEGAPULS 31 with 4 … 20 mA/HART signal is the ideal choice. Specially designed VEGA mounting brackets ensure that the sensors are positioned consistently at the optimal measuring point. In this way, VARIBOX and VEGA are making secure chemical IBCs fit for digital inventory management – and transforming previously “blind” containers into transparent building blocks of modern chemical logistics.

VEGA AND AKENZA JOIN FORCES

EGA is acquiring akenza AG, a Swiss enterprise IoT platform vendor. VEGA is a family-owned company with more than 2,800 employees worldwide and a market presence in over 80

countries. Its sensors for level, point level, and pressure measurement, as well as the associated hardware and software, are used in industries such as chemicals, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, water and wastewater management, and mining. Akenza specialises in IoT solutions and provides Smart Industry and Smart Corporate Real Estate deployments for global organisations. Its agnostic platform enables the seamless connection of devices and systems and has proven itself across a wide range of applications. By combining their expertise, VEGA and akenza are creating the foundation for innovative, scalable, and end-to-end IoT solutions across the entire value chain. For VEGA, the acquisition represents an expansion of its digital portfolio and another step in the growth of its Industrial IoT business segment. For akenza, this new chapter opens the opportunity to leverage VEGA’s global presence and expertise across manufacturing and industry, as well as to further scale its own IoT solutions. “This step is an important milestone on the path to achieving our long-term strategic goals. VEGA’s sensor technology and akenza’s technology-agnostic, horizontal IoT platform complement each other perfectly. Together, we close the gap between data collection and its use for informed decisions. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the akenza team to VEGA and taking the next step together. This opens new opportunities for our customers to make their processes even more efficient and transparent,” says Isabel Grieshaber, managing partner of VEGA Grieshaber KG.

“VEGA gives us the global reach and the foundation to elevate akenza to a new international level. Together, we’re cutting through the complexity of the IoT, allowing enterprise customers to seamlessly connect hardware to action. We will continue to expand use cases in the Smart Industry sector, and keep growing our Smart Building vertical with the agility our customers value,” says Jonas Schmid, Co-CEO of akenza AG.

Going forward, both partners will pool their expertise and gradually integrate the akenza platform into VEGA’s expanded range of solutions. akenza will continue to operate independently in the market and maintain its existing customer relationships. Both companies view this as the beginning of a long-term, value-driven partnership.
