UK industrial doors market regains pre-recession level
The industrial and commercial doors market increased by an estimated three per cent in 2016, following four per cent growth in 2015, but there are indications that the growth rate is slowing in 2017. Key factors underpinning growth in the

factories and industry sectors that are becoming ‘smart’ - through the use of specialist technologies or data and network sharing. There’s no doubt that this can help to achieve greater efficiencies and future-proof businesses, but some are still yet to reap the benefits as they haven’t made the move towards this new and high tech way of working. A recent report stated that
many manufacturers have said they still haven’t embraced new concepts like artificial intelligence, and some believe the UK lags behind other leading developed countries. What about using a

Forklift safety is paramount
Midland Pallet Trucks has called for businesses to prioritise employee safety after statistics about the lack of forklift safety in the UK were recently released. The figures, which were collected by The Regulatory Body for Workplace Transport Training, lay bare the sorry state of forklift safety. It reported that 65 per cent of forklift workers did not know how to conduct the vital driving and braking pre-use check required to ensure that their vehicle is safe to use. A further 49 per cent of forklift drivers did not know how to check that the operator’s seat was safe, and 48 per cent were unaware of how to suitably check the forklift’s mast. Phil Chesworth, Midland Pallet Trucks managing director, said: “It is
down to the companies who employ these people to ensure that such procedure is second nature; we’ve had some fatal accidents with forklifts recently and we certainly don’t want to see any more.” The figures come after a recent tragic accident caused a 65-year-old
man, described as being only ‘days away from retirement,’ to be killed in a forklift-related incident at Hull-based Swift Caravans.

Narrow Aisle has announced that it is on target to achieve a year-on- year global sales uplift across its range of over 20 per cent in 2017. The company attributes this to growing sales in the Asian and American markets and the success of the Flexi StorMAX AC high density storage system, which Narrow Aisle introduced at the back end of 2015.
