Keep it real F
Lou Banks of Rising Vibe helps people to see how accessing their emotions releases true business potential
eelings and emotions are everywhere. We are human. Humans have lots of feelings and emotions. So why in business are they rarely encouraged or
even spoken about? We’ve all heard of the term PMA
(positive mental attitude) or engaged in conversations about how to stay motivated, driven and passionate. But you won’t often hear dialogue around resentment, anger, rage, shame, fear or despair. These emotions are just as prominent, in fact often more so. We have between 50,000 and 70,000 thoughts per day, or between 35 and 48 thoughts per minute. Unfortunately, the majority of them are unhelpful. So is it any wonder that staying in a PMA feels impossible? And when we’re not feeling
positive, being told that we should be just makes it worse. ‘Never in the history of telling someone to calm down, have they ever calmed down!’ Rising Vibe works in the corporate space. We have a large portfolio of corporate clients and everyone in the team has come from a corporate background. We have a passion for corporate. However, when we were in that world full time, we all experienced the pressure of not feeling able to be real. In fact, I was once told to change my brand to fit in. Thankfully, I never did. This need to fit in creates a breed
of what we refer to as ‘corporate contortionists’. Most of us understand that the ‘my way or the high way’ approach is ineffective, and that being flexible is important. But twisting and bending yourself into painful positions
to fit in isn’t helpful, and that way you will never be the best version of yourself. Yet we see so many people who have spent so long in these painful positions that they are now stuck. This, of course, is very unpleasant, but it is familiar and familiar means safe. Sharing feelings and emotions that
aren’t positive is critical to enable performance. There are too many people pretending that they’re fine. Too many people who talk about stress because it’s more acceptable and less shameful than admitting they feel fear or insecurity. There are too many people in business who are crippled by negative emotions and are living a contortionist life. Visit our website
