“Phonique evolved from a bar into a big club and has already hosted some really fun nights. These resi- dencies allow me to explore and experiment musica- lly in a consistent environment, fostering my growth as an artist,” he shares.
THE TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIEN- CE OF BURNING MAN
“Burning Man is the most unique anthropological ex- periment of our time; it’s like our Woodstock. Maxa is my family, and I have many good memories from there. One fun memory is when Holmar invited me to play at a party. He wasn’t there initially, and I thought it wasn’t going to happen. Then, a minute before the set time, he arrived and told me to go on after Carl Cox, which was nerve-wracking but memorable”.
Burning Man is guided by ten core principles that include radical inclusion, gifting, decommodifica- tion, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy, all of which have influenced Alonso´s view and artistic approach towards his artistic and personal life.
Unlike traditional festivals, Burning Man, which is not a festival, thrives on the active participation of its attendees. There are no spectators, and everyone is expected to contribute in some way, whether through art, performances, workshops, or community service.
“A really special moment was a sunrise set on the Maxa deer for my album debut ‘Rise’ in 2019. Dancing through the sunrise with friends and curious ravers was one of the best experiences ever. Burning Man usually has a unique democracy of sound, so everyone is invited to come, but also free to go, Rivero recalls.
FRACTAL STUDIO
Rivero’s Fractal Studio in CDMX serves as a crea- tive sanctuary that facilitates collaboration and innovation within the music community.
“I started as a drummer, so coming from rock bands, electronic music can be a lonely path. Having a stu- dio was the best alternative to continue collabora- ting with other artists. Now, I enjoy the best of both worlds—creating music alone and collaborating. Sharing ideas and understanding different creative processes with other artists is very significant.
Sharing the studio has been an amazing experience that emerged from Fractal Studio. These collabora- tions hold personal significance as they represent a fusion of diverse creative energies.
“Everything starts with the intention of a track. So- metimes I aim for something energetic for the dance floor, other times for a soft, chill track. The freedom to explore different directions and follow intuition is my favorite part of producing electronic music. My studio is my creative place”.
Collaboration is always crucial for Alonso and Frac- tal Studio has provided the perfect place for this.
“I work there with Digit, my partner and an amazing audio engineer, creating a nice workflow with deep and long sessions.
