“Our mission is to create a space where we can support one another, not just as artists, but as friends and co- llaborators. By not isolating ourselves, we touch souls in the flow of events happening in the world. That’s why I organize donation events under the name “Stronger Together” and we release albums as well. Many valuable artists in our organization have contributed to this.”

Their community efforts extend beyond music. SUMIA and her sister have used income from projects like the “Stronger Together” album to support causes like ear- thquake relief through the NGO Ahbap. Looking ahead, they’re planning a reforestation project at the Am- sterdam Dance Event in October, where proceeds from handmade jewelry created by SUMIA will go toward planting trees and getting ready for a donation album for stray animals.

STAYING GROUNDED: BALANCING MUSIC AND LIFE

The life of a DJ and producer is demanding, with cons- tant travel and production deadlines. For SUMIA, sta- ying motivated and balanced comes from her love for the art itself.

“There are times when I feel stuck, but true belief in myself and my music keeps me going. I’m doing some- thing that’s truly my dream job, and I have the chance to do it with the music style I love the most. Whenever I’m in situations that make me feel bad, remembering such things makes me happy.”

Despite the physical and mental toll of the industry, SUMIA finds joy in the journey.

“The early days were tough—long layovers, exhausting flights (especially with my scoliosis problem), perfor- ming with little sleep—but when I saw the magic on stage, it made it all worth it.”

Family is also a crucial source of motivation. While her family initially didn’t support her decision to pursue DJing, she eventually earned their trust.

“When my mom and grandma were finally there for me and support what I’m doing, I felt like the happiest per- son in the world.”

Looking ahead, SUMIA is excited to continue growing her artistic vision while using her platform to make a positive impact on the world. Whether it’s through her music, her community work with Volx, or her art pro- jects, she remains committed to creating meaningful connections and making a difference—one beat at a

time. Text by: Sergio Niño
