Known for their dynamic performances that blend energetic beats, captivating visuals, and an unapo- logetic attitude, they’ve carved out a unique space within the ever-evolving music scene. Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with them to explore the inspirations behind their artistry, the magic of live per- formances, and the intricacies of their collaboration.
At the heart of their music lies an unfiltered energy, a raw connection to their experiences that shapes their sound. When asked how their journeys influence their performances, Miss Bashful passionately shared,
“Darling, every note, every movement is pure, unfiltered me. I don’t just perform, I exude. My life, my experiences, and everything in between—they all drip into what you see and hear. You’re getting a piece of me, unapologe- tic and raw.”
DBBD echoed this sentiment, highlighting the natural synergy between them.
“Honestly, it’s all pretty natural for us. Miss Bashful has an incredible stage presence, and together we make each other comfortable. As soon as we get a bit into it and our fans give us the energy, it feels like a party that we are also just at. I’m a bit reserved on stage, but she isn’t, so together I think we balance each other out.”
Miss Bashful’s powerful vocals play a crucial role in their signature sound. When I asked her about finding her voice, she responded with confidence,
“Well, I always knew I was going to be a star. This voice? It’s been waiting for its moment. I didn’t find it; it found me. It’s the star of the show—everything else just fo- llows its lead.”
DBBD further emphasized how her vocals enhance the overall aesthetic of their work, showcasing a perfect blend of artistry and emotion.
DBBD’s production style, described as hard-hitting yet irresistibly sexy, brings an additional layer to their mu- sic. He shared his creative process, explaining,
“My production process is very sporadic; I don’t follow a formula. It’s more about following a mood, which is usually sensual for me because that’s the kind of stuff I always loved in the club. I’ll have an idea for a melody or bass line, and that creates the vibe; everything else falls into place naturally.” He acknowledged the colla- borative nature of their work, stating, “A lot of the time I’ll have sexy beats ready that Miss B will pick, and then we’ll just play around with what lyrics fit where.”
AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE
Their live shows transcend mere performances, crea- ting immersive experiences that blend dance, fashion, and sound. Miss Bashful articulated her approach to this dynamic, saying,
“I think they all complement each other. It’s part of our identity. It’s our world and who we are, so it just makes sense, babe.” DBBD added, “The visuals are there to enhance what’s already in the music. We don’t over- think it. I have my style, and she has hers, and together it just works and always has.”
THE BERLIN INFLUENCE
Having established their artistry in Berlin, the city’s vibrant music scene has undeniably shaped their sound and performances. Miss Bashful shared her thoughts, stating,
“The Berlin club scene has influenced the techno as- pect. I remember going out with DBBD and thinking to myself, ‘Berlin needs to be more CUNT.’ But the sass and ass comes from my Tex-Mex background, so it’s a blend between all the worlds.” She emphasized how the city has allowed her to express herself freely, adding, “Without Berlin, there would be no Miss B.”
DBBD highlighted the spontaneous nature of the city, noting,
“It’s the little unexpected moments that happen on a night out in Berlin that inspire my sound. Balancing the city can be tough for a lot of people. We never took techno or clubbing that seriously, but always loved dis- covering sexy music. That’s why we can enjoy a healthy relationship by going out and are so grateful for the ca- reers we have today. We had some of the best nights at Aeden so playing there and having one of the craziest crowd reactions solidified that Berlin accepted us as local artists. That was such a special moment.”
He reflected on a memorable performance at Ae- den, which solidified their acceptance as local artists, showcasing the profound impact Berlin has had on their growth.
A DESTINY ENCOUNTER
Their collaboration blossomed from a serendipitous meeting, a moment that felt destined. Miss Bashful recalled,
“We met at a Berlin lake one random day; it was des- tiny...”, describing how their creative connection spar- ked instantly. “We just went to my studio one day to see what we could come up with and made ‘Mini Skirts on Men’ within a few hours. When things flow, we just bounce off each other’s energy and laugh a lot in the studio.”
They navigate challenges by taking breaks and retur- ning to their creative work refreshed, showcasing a healthy dynamic.
