Message from the Chairman A

merican Indian Heritage Month welcomed a month of celebrations for our Lumbee citizens and Native people across the nation. We take this opportunity to share our culture and history with students of all ages, community members, and businesses across the state. Highlighting and celebrating who we are as Lumbee people is something we will continue to do as we promote our strength, our resiliency, and our future.

Lumbee citizens continue to benefit from our tribal programs, which provide assistance with utility costs, safe and affordable housing, as well as home ownership. This edition of Lumbee Today discusses our Low-Income Housing Energy Assistant Program (LIHEAP) and Low-Income Housing Water Assistant Program (LIHWAP). Our

energy and water programs continue to help many tribal members cover the cost of everyday necessities. We are proud to help our people.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Lumbee Today and help us get out the word about our programs and services. As you can see, we are a busy tribal government and we are striving each and every day to better serve our people and continue to grow our communities.

Sterlin Harjo, and Tatanka
