Lumbee Families Travel to Georgia to Honor Ancestors
In November, Lumbee families and volunteers traveled from across the United States to Georgia to pay respect and honor our elders by cleaning the Croatan Indian Memorial Cemetery in Adabelle, Georgia. Almost 40 people attended the annual cleanup. The graves are Lumbee relatives and ancestors who passed and were buried in the Claxton community in the late 1880’s through the early 1900s while our ancestors worked in the turpentine industry in Georgia.
