Lumbee Culture Spotlighted at Annual Fish Fry
T
housands of people visited the 2022 Lumbee Tribe Fall Festival and Fish Fry. The day kicked off with a 5K Fun Run which circled the back
side of the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. Before grabbing a fish plate, participants had the opportunity to speak with Lumbee Artisans and see traditional crafts being made. Children were busy creating pinch pots, stamping pottery, gourd dolls and much more. The staff also demonstrated open pit hog cooking and the cooking of cracklings in a wash pot. Families also had an opportunity to assist with the dig and burn out process of the canoe project which is on-site at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. There was also gospel singing throughout the day.
