Village plan for bungalow development

Planshave been unveiledfora number of newbungalowsto be built in Langho, which de- veloperssaywillVitcomfort- ably”withinthesurrounding landscape.

Thedevelopmentofi8proper- ties, a third of which will be af fordable housing, is proposed forasitejusteast of Northcote Road. Paul Walton, a director of

looking to the future he hopes to turn professional at 17.

the planning consultancy who. have submitted the plans on behalf of the landowners said: “Theproposalshavebeencare- fully considered. The devel opment is a suitable scale and type of development for the area. Wewantto createhomes which will be sympathetic’ to existing properties in the area and close attention has been paid to landscaping and the appearance of the houses so that they sit comfortably within their immediate sur roundings.” The number of bungalows

proposed is in line with the re quirement for new homes for Langho contained in Ribble Valley Borough Council’s re cently adopted Core Strategy. Mr Walton continued: “This

is also a sustainable, accessible site, within walking distance of local amenities, including a primary school and public transport. “The development will in

clude much-needed affordable housing and we have worked with the planning authority to deliver a well thought-out and considerate small-scale hous ing plan which will feel very much a part of the village. “We are aware of the pres

sures for new development within the Ribble Valley and Langho in particular, and we believe this scheme overcomes niany of the concerns raised in respect of other larger propos als.” The application for outline

planning permission is likely to be considered by RVBC later this year.

Beat the bounds with the Mayor

Ribble Valley Mayor Coun Michael Ranson is ready to step out on the final stages of his ambitious borough boundary walk for charity. Councillor Ranson has revived an ancient custom of‘beating the bounds’ - walking Ribble Valley’s 85-mile boundary -in sections of four to six miles during his mayoral year. He is raising cash for his chosen charities, Home-Start Ribble Valley and Crossroads Care Ribble Valley. The next section, from Longridge to Ribchester, is on Saturday, February 28th, setting off from Mardale Car Park, Longridge, at 10 am, followed by Ribchester to Clayton-le- Dale on March 14th. Further walks are planed, with a grand finale in May. Residents are invited to join the walks and a reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required to take part, although at least one of the walks will be accessible to mobility scooters, pushchairs and wheelchairs. Further details are available at ribblevalIey.gov.uk

1974. Mr Pickup’s funeral takes

place at St Mary’s and St Anselm RC Church, Whit worth, at 10 am today (Thurs day), followed by a committal at Rochdale Crematorium at 11-50 am. Mr Pickup, who also served
