Fine for shoplifter at Sainsburys store


A 44-year-old man walked out of Sainsburys in Clithe­ roe without paying for three bottles of vodka worth £114. Ian David Glover, of Brown- hill Avenue, Burnley, plead­ ed guilty to shoplifting when he appeared at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court. He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months and fined £20.


Gisburn man denies car fraud charge

Andrew Keith Piner (49), of Mill Lane, Gisburn, was re­ manded on bail until April ’ 17th when he appeared be­ fore magistrates in Black- v burn. At the hearing he pleaded not guilty to fraudu­ lently offering a car for sale. He is alleged to have received £750 for the car which was then allegedly never deliv­ ered to the buyer.

A Clitheroe student who only spoke basic English six years ago has been honoured for outstanding achievements at Blackburn College’s annual Construction Awards. Jefferson Piaun Sanchez (21), of Highfield Road, was award­ ed the Blackburn College Shield for the Most Outstanding 2nd Year Level 3 Extended Diploma in Electrical/EIectron- ic Engineering Student. His family moved to Lancashire from Alicante inSpainin2008andsince then Jefferson has spent time at Blackburn College, where he completed his BTEC in Electric Engineering, an English GCSE, alongside an Alevelin Spanish. “There are a lot of great opportunities at Blackburn College

Owners of Range Rovers and Land Rover Discovery vehi­ cles are being warned to watch out for thieves who smash a window then use an electronic device to beat the anti-theft: system and drive away. The latest was a £30,000 Range Rover boma drive at Mellor, where two other vehicles went in the previous fortnight. In recent weeks, 10 such vehicles have been stolen across Eastern Division, totalling nearly a quar­ ter of a million pounds. A 20-year-old from Clithe­ roe is through to the finals of a competition to name the country’sfirstyearappren- ticeoftheyear.


Benjamin Farnsworth is a manufacturing engineering apprentice at BAE Training Centre, Preston.
