five individual tasks. These' included a volunteering cat egory, for which he took re sponsibility for the expedition training of cadets, both in the classroom and in practice. There was also a physical
section, for which he carried out a series of individual and collective walks. Through this he gained the Basic Expe dition Leaders’ Award, which enables him to arrange and su pervise walking expeditions. Another category was
skills, for which Jefferson de signed and produced a pro totype interactive board pen for use by the squadron. He also wrote simple guidelines for the production and use of the pen. . Forhisexpeditionsection, along with a team of five other
cadets, Jefferson completed a four-day walking expedition in which he journeyed from Ennerdale Water to Bamp- ton, covering the breadth of the Northern area of the Lake District from West to East. Finally he had to complete
a residential category and Jef ferson was one of a 12-strong team selected to travel to Namibia. There they spent two weeks on a wild life safari in jeeps, wild camping in the desert and visiting the local Himbe Tribe and orphanage. Jefferson is now in his
second year'at Leeds Univer sity studying robotics. How ever, he still main tains contact with the squadron and assists with the training of cadets for their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
