Playing off 8, his nett 74 was outstanding and his 42 points left him top of the class. Leader in the clubhouse
had been Gordon Lucas with 40 points, but his bubble was quicklyburstasPhilwasinthe following group on the course. Phil Clegg, with 39 points
just pipped Gary Ashton for third spot on a card play-off. Captain Peter Main scored
a two at the first and winner Phil Hammond joined regular twos specialist Frank Hindle with a birdie at the ninth., Handicap and Competi
tions Chairman John Berry birdied the final hole. Phil’s win takes him to the
top of the Order of Merit with 49 points, three ahead of Keith Fitzhemy andWaynelvinson, andfouraheadofMickKelbie.'

Whalley hosted the Len Rowbot- tom Trophy on Saturday, as John Jobes came out on top with a classy 41 points, winning bythreefromDavidHanson, ' whowassecondin Division One, third place going to Paul Wray with 37. Division Twowentto John Hamilton (37points), with Tony Walker (35) pipping new - captain-elect Richard Ferley on a card play-off.
