Crowds converge on Castle classic cars Blues’ solid start to new campaign

Thousands of people attended this year’s classic car show set in the wonderful grounds of Clitheroe Castle. The North West Sound Archive, based at the Castle, gave people a chance to see

more than 40 classic cars on display over the Bank Holiday weekend in the area at the foot of the Castle Keep. It was such a roaring success that organisers are already planning next year’s event.

Two-and-a-half years after setting up his business, Charlie is top franchisee Business is flourishing for

Charlie Bush is toasting suc cess this week having been

named Riverford Franchisee oftheyear2014.

Charlie, from Gisburn, set up the Riverford franchise in East Lancashire two-and-a- half years ago. He now deliv ers fresh organic vegetables to more than 250 households

a week throughout the Ribble Valley and further afield. ■ There are 70 Riverford

franchisees up and down the country, all delivering award winning organic fruit, veg and meat to over 40,000 custom ers through their iconic veg- boxes. Every year at the annual Riverford conference a fran chisee is recognised for his or her efforts in sales, customer care, business practice and brand building. “I’m delighted to win the

award,” said Charlie, “it’s a great honour and makes all that hard work worthwhile.

“I know my customers are

happy with me, but it’s great to know that those who have spent a lot of their lives build- ing.the company are happy with me too! “The Riverford brand and

heritage is important to me, I believe passionately about or

ganic farming and want others to know the benefits that this farming practice can bring, both to the environment and to their homes.”

Charlie this year, as the or ganic industry is recovering quickly from the recession and confidence is high after new scientific research was released strengthening claims that organic food has signifi cant nutritional benefits com

pared with conventional food. Charlie added: “We’re

thrilled to hear about this re search. We have always known that organic food looks, feels and tastes different to conven tionally produced crops that are generally pushed forward with synthetic fertilisers. “It would be extraordinary

if theseclearly observable dif ferences were not reflected in the nutritional value too, and it now seems that science is catching up with what has al

ways been common sense to us.”

Riverfordhasalsojustbeen

named Best Retailer at the Ob server Ethical Awards 2014. Central to the company is the concept of giving local peo ple the freshest possible sea sonal fruit and veg at a price that is fair to both customers and growers. Customers get great value organic veg, deliv ered free to their door by the shortest possible route. For more information you

can find Charlie on Facebook at Riverford East Lancashire, call 01200 445922 or visit www.riverford.co.uk • Riverford began in Dev-'

on in 1987, founded by organic farmer Guy Watson delivering

organic vegetables to 30 local homes.
