mains gas grid and reliant on oil fo r • home heating. This is a first fo r the Home
Heating Oil market, where prices typically fall in the spring when demand is low and rise significantly in the winter when demand is at its highest. It also marks the first nationally- available tariff fo r Craggs Energy,

which launched in September 2011 and already has a large and loyal customer base in the North West and Yorkshire. Says Chris Bingham, Chief
Executive o f Craggs Energy: "In - a competitive market, we are the first Home Heating Oil supplier to offer our customers across the UK . the peace-of-mind o f knowing how much they will pay for the fuel to heat their homes fo r a year. "Home Heating Oil prices are

extremely unpredictable, usually fo r reasons beyond suppliers' control. ' For example, the price is generally higher in the winter months, when' •

«5»T Moot HE warm dry weather we have
had this summer has meant we have seen a number o f our patients with insect bites and
stings from wasps, bees, and even
• ants and horse flies. Most stings are rarely serious.
Usually you will just see redness, localised swelling and itchiness around the location o f the sting. This is usually the feet o r the face,
resulting in a swollen sore paw '• o r a swollen cheek and eyebrows ' (angioedema).
on fixed incomes - extremely vulnerable.
.. "That's why we are launching 'Oil ,
Price.Protect' now across the UK. , Customers will no longer be at the
' mercy o f change in oil prices that can be so difficult to manage in the
winter when usage is at its highest.' Craggs Energy's 'Oil Price
Protect' offers one, easy-to- understand tariff, three simple payment options and a buy-back guarantee should customers not use as much Heating Oil as
anticipated. Customers can order online or by phone and delivery is via one o f their local depots in Burnley, Kirkby Lonsdale, Hebden Bridge and Sheffield.

Stings inside the mouth are more
critical as the tongue or throat can swell, resulting in breathing difficulties. Anaphylactic reactions to repeated stings are equally life- threatening, where more generalised swelling and hives (urticaria -
itchy
red patches) are seen and the animal becomes restless, dizzy and collapses
with a weak pulse. Immediate' veterinary attention is imperative in both these situations. If the sting is still in the skin it will
probably be the barbed stinger o f a bee. Do n o t try and remove it with your fingers or tweezers, which will squeeze more o f the sting into the skin. Instead brush it o ff with your fingernail o r a credit card. Whether it is a bee o r wasp sting
apply an ice pack wrapped in a tea towel or cold water to the affected area fo r around 15 minutes to reduce the swelling and irritation. Applying Aloe Vera, calamine
lotion or antihistamine cream to the
area can help reduce the irritation of the sting. Knowing whether it was a wasp,
bee o r an ant can be helpful in terms o f first aid treatment.
Bee stings and ant bites (formic
acid) are acidic, therefore applying ' an alkaline bicarbonate
-O f soda (baking soda) o r toothpaste to the area can neutralise them.
• Wasp stings are alkaline therefore applying a small amount o f vinegar or
/lem o n juice will neutralise these. If after a few hours the area is still red and swollen, o r they are having problems breathing o r there are signs o f anaphylaxis, such as hives, then contact your vet. They may want to administer steroid, antihistamines and antibiotics, as well as oxygen, adrenaline and intravenous fluids in the more acute cases.
