didn’t have to race at Cad weB Park,” he said. “Thechampionshipbrings both disciplines of road racing and short circuit racing to gether but I excelled on the former. “It was very comfortable in the end. I

ended up with 87 points ini the end and the runner-up, Justin Waring, finished with 34 points. To win a national championship is superb and it’s a great feeling. I’ve won club championships in the past so this is all building towards my CV.” Haworth scooped the Manx Grand Prix

championship - which takes place on the. 37-mile Isle of Man Mountain course - after eight years of trying during the 2013 cam paign. Andhe’sdelighted to addyetanother landmark: “TheManxGrandPrixisincred- ibly prestigious because of its history and the circuit that it’s run on. This is another milestone in my career and I’m proud of it,” Haworth, who earned the fourth and

fifth international victories of his career at : the Southern Too’ event in July, also Iand-

to the collection,” said Haworth. The worst I’ve finished allyear is third so I've had a very goodseason. I've woneverythingapart from tworaces.”

Racers such as Dean Harrison, James

Cowton, Michael Dunlop, Dan Kneen, Guy Martin arid Ivan Lintin continue to domi nate Duke Road Race's top 10 - which takes in to account lower profile events as well as thelsleofManTT.theUlsterGrandPrixand the Macau Grand Prix in Hong Kong. . “I’m in the top 15 and I’ve only covered seven rounds,” Haworth beamed. “The top 10 is boxed off with some incredible guys. There’s some big names up there. It’s good to be recognised and among them.”

The 24-year-oldi who has fought 2i times in a four-year professional tenure, vowed to draw in the reins on a tumultu ous career. , Dirrell was an-Olympic

bronze medalist at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, Greece. The American South paw has gone on to win 22 of • his 23 outings with the Matrix’s only blemish being inflicted by four-time world champion Carl Froch. After being given three

week’s notice for the contest in Los Angeles, Blackledge said: “I had to turn it down. He’s a world class fighter and I was only given three week’s notice to fight him. The money offered wasn’t great either and the risk has to be worth the re ward. “But at least I’m being con sidered for these fights. Doors

are starting to open for me. It’s great that I’ve been given that opportunity to fight in America but it wasn’t right for me. He’s only ever lost to Carl Froch! ” Blackledge, who defeated

Ghanaian behemoth Philip Kotey at Blackburn’s King George’s Hall earlier in the month, added: “He’s won a bronze medal at the Olympics as well. Many people believe that he beat Froch but the de cision went against him. He’s a top fighter. “I sat down with my trainer

Alex Matvienko and we decid ed against it. We didn't need to take the fight and I don’t want to be taking backwards steps now because there is the risk that I’d get beat. I hadn’t been given enough time to prepare. “They wanted me to do a

10-round fight with him and there wasn’t a title on the line. It just seemed pretty point less. It’s nice to be linked with these names though. I’m being offered the fights and I’ll take them only when I’m ready.”
