A Clitheroe primary school has added an extra reception class because ofthe number of new houses being built in the town. St James’ CE Prima
ry School, in Greenacre Street, has started the new school year with two classes dedicated to new starters in reception. _ This year 56 youngsters
have started at the Church of England school and are divided between two classes. The increase in pupils
has meant that the school has employed a new teach er, Miss Cranswick, who will teach one of the reception classes. St James’ headteacher
Victoria competing earlier this year and (left) in Switzerland with her employer, Denise Park.
Mrs Fiona Pattison said: “The education authority choose St James’ school as the most suitable to cope with the increased demand for school places due to the large numberofnewhouses being built in the area. As a result, we have appointed Miss Cranswick to teach our
new reception class, Acorn.” In previous years, St
James’ yearly intake was 45 children, the majority of whom were taught in a pure reception class and the re maining in a split Reception/ Year 1 class. ' The children of parents
who applied to other over subscribed Clitheroe pri mary schools this year were offered a place at St James' where there is the additional capacity. All-the new reception
pupils were provided with a handmade gingerbread lollipop from the Friends of St James' School Committee to welcome them to school. An open day is being held

Footballing girls show how it’s done!
Clitheroe Wolves FC has put together a new under-iis girls’ team.
Some'of the new squad had gained previous experience in the boys’ teams, but some had never kicked a football before they started training together back in June. Preparations started with a six-week taster programme set up by Ross Hibbert, with help from Nicole Burgess.
It saw enough girls attending to be able to make a team, managed by Nicole, and soon a kit was donated, sponsored by local trades man Tony Pritt, whose granddaughter plays on the team. The icing on the cake came when the girls’ team won theirveryfirstmatch 9-4, playing away against Academy Juniors in Bolton.
