Steve’s landscapes to feature in exhibition
Sabden-based artist Steve Rostron will see his work form part of a mqjor exhibi tion in the Clitheroe this Autumn. “Modern Landscapes” runs at The
Longitude Gallery, off Castlegate, begin ning on September 13th and running for two months. For the exhibition Steve will show
around 10 of his distinctive abstract paintings that capture the ever-chang ing and often dramatic atmosphere of the countryside in which he lives and works. Steve works from a small studio that he - has built in his garden, giving him a per fect view of fields, trees, sky and the sinu ous sometimes brooding form of Pendle Hill. “From here I can literally paint what I
see from my studio,” he siad. “I am fasci nated by the constantly changing weath er, the shifting patterns on the landscape. Even when I paint by using images in my own head I find that this environment informs the end result.” Steve added: “I am delighted to be one
of the artists whose work comprises the ‘Modern Landscapes’, exhibition. The Longitude Gallery is a great space to view the work and the gallery has been very supportive.” When he is not painting Steve spends
much of his time exploring the country side with his whippet, Boo, who has also featured in his work. To see examples of

Barry Steele was a long distance lor ry driver, but he has hauled himself into the fast lane of show business as

of America’s greatest rock and roll icons. “At the end of ashow, people some

first gig I’ve ever done-it is that spe cial.
“It took me six months to learn
Roy Orbison’s repertoire, and then I decided to quit the lorry driving and go full-time.” ' Barry will be supported by his
band, including local musicians Bar ney Williams from Burnley and bass ist Alan Williams from Colne “Throughout the show, there’s
film footage from every era ofRoy Or bison’s life and that really gives you a sense ofwhat Roy was like,” added Barry. “It’s strange because he didn’t re
ally find fame until he came to Eng land, and he was renowned for saying very little on stage to his audience. But that didn’t matter, it was Roy Or bison’s magnetic voice and presence that made him the incredible singer he was.” • Barry Steele: Roy Orbison and
