A thanksgiving service for the life of retired hospital admin­ istrator, sportsman, youth worker and prominent Meth­ odist Mr Michael Britcliffe has been held in Clitheroe. Mr Britcliffe, of Chatburn


Road, Clitheroe, died aged 73 at Abbeyfield Care Home, Low Moor, where he had been resident for about nine months. Born in Barrow and edu­


cated at the village school and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, Mr Britcliffe went to work at Brockhall Hospital aged 17 as an administrator, beginning a 42-year career in the National Health Service. He also worked at Calder-
