meeting, a resident inquired about the timescale for high speed fibre broadband to reach rural areas. It was reported that the first phase has now been delivered and it was thought as the Padiham Exchange is being upgraded at the end of this year it is likely to be 2015 for Sabden.

Planning Councillors considered

an application for the part demolition of Victoria Mill in Watt Street and building of 37 new houses, three dwellings in a converted retained part of the mill building, landscap

ing and demolition of the mill chimney. Councillors had no objections as they are keen for the site to be tidied and for the development to progress. The council said a report

produced byCroft Transport Solutions contained inac

curate information regarding public transport in Sabden, as it refers to five buses per hour

when in fact there is one bus per hour to Burnley and one to Clitheroe.

The council is also to re

quest the inclusion of a clause to ensure a proportion of the Section 106 money given by developers will be allocated for use on projects in the par ish to benefit the community.

Sabden over the past few years has had a large amount of de

velopment but not benefited

from any Section 106 money to date.

Play area Councillors were advised

there has been a report of an adult having had an accident on the play area. In such circumstances the individuals are always referred to the par ish council advisors/insurers.

Noticeboard A noticeboard for the bus

shelter at Watt Street, cost ing between £350 and £500, was considered. Councillors discussed if it was still a prior ity as some time had elapsed since it was first discussed. Councillors also considered the parking area adjacent and if improvements could be made. Following a vote it was agreed to go ahead with a noticeboard and three coun cillors will meet to review the parking area and report to the next meeting.

Playground Coun. Shorter said the

goalmouths are very muddy. It was suggested they could be re-sited following Sabden Live as the area is waterlogged. Some work is needed on

the anchor points of the spi der’s web. Ribble Valley Bor ough Council is offering every parish an oak tree and poppy seeds to recognise the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. Coun cillors are to consider suitable locations.

Council liaison Coun. Shorter reported on

a meeting of the committee where there had been a pres entation by Sandra Fox from LCC Public Health, outling new roles, responsibilities and opportunities. There was an up date on Superfast broad band which is being rolled out across Lancashire between 2013 and 2015.

Vic’s Peak performance

Top fell runner Victoria Wilkinson is celebrating be ing the quickest woman in the Three Peaks running race. In only her second time

competing in the event, the Clitheroe sports therapist ran the fourth quickest-ever women’s time of three hours 21 minutes, knocking 16 min utes off her previous time. The 60th anniversary race

started and finished at Horton in Ribblesdale, and the 700 competitors slogged 24 gru elling miles over Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Victoria (35), known to her

friends as Vic, realised she had a good chance o f being first woman home when she was near the foot of Inglebor ough and heading towards the seven fairly flat miles to the finish line. She said: “It’s the kind of

race where anything can hap pen. You can think you’re do ing well then burn up and lose minutes. “I was just concentrating

on my own race and staying with the men.”

Vic, also a competition

winning cy clist , is now, uniquely, the first woman to win both the Three Peaks cyclo-cross and the Three Peaks running race. She is the current joint

English and British women’s fell running champion, and four weeks ago she won the annual Pendle Fell Race, start ing from Barley, which was the season’s first English champi onship event. She also added to her

achievements in the second championship run, the Con- iston Fell Race, in which she smashed the women’s record which had stood for 18 years, by3mins40secs. Vic, who works for Denise

Park Physiotherapy in Clithe roe, lives in Skipton and trains with boyfriend, Darren Kay, who is also a leading fell race competitor. Her training diet includes

plenty of carbohydrates and she says: “I always make sure I’m well hydrated, and I don’t eat rubbish...although I do like cake.”
