- LukeTaskermissedouton a place in the men’s final o f the Modern Pentathlon World Cup in Hungary at th e weekend.

With 89 men competing, qualification for the final in Kecskemet was a tough challenge, and Tasker, as well as Great Britain team mate Tom Toolis, missed the cut. Athletes had to secure

a top-eight finish in each of the three qualification groups to be sure of pro gressing to Sunday’s final, or be one of the next top-12 points scorers across the three groups. Twenty-year-old Luke

Tasker, from Waddington, contesting only his sec ond World Cup, finished 25th in group B with 1069 points. H e started off with the

who held a one shot lead at the halfway point. However, So

formances in the French U21 Championships and the Scot tish Womens Championships - which has seen Sophie climb to 320 in the world rankings - her proud dad, Phil, said: “Iwasin- crediblyproudofhowsheper- formed especially as she had the additional pressure of be ing the defending champion in such a big event. “It was especially pleasing

that she retained her title with a record score of-9 and she also got her handicap down to +2. The funny thing is that last years boys champion, Marco

Penge, also won again this year which is also the first time that has happened.” He added: “I’m incredibly

proud that Sophie success fully retained her crown at Fairhaven Golf Club. She was obviously delighted to be rep resenting England again and she played superbly.” . In the Nations Cup - com

of Hollie Muse, Oliver Far rell and Jamie Li and England

comprising Sophie, Jake Sto rey and Matty Lamb, finished third on 294.

who finished third overall in the mixed field, told England Golf: “It wasgood.Iloved it. Last year when Marco andl won we said that if we both came back and played we’dhave to win it again-andwedid!”
