Village campaigners have publicly thanked the people
who supported their success ful battle against plans for 132 new homes at Langho. Plans for the development,
off Longsight Road, were refused by Ribble Valley Borough Council’s planning committee on the grounds that it would go against the Ribble Valley Core Strate gy governing development, which is nearing completion. Planners said the number
of homes was much greater than Langho needed.
Ian is refused Sheffield-based Hallam
. Land Management had sub mitted the application for the
5-4-hectaresitenexttoLarigho railway station, between the
■ A59 and Whalley Road. They had promised to provide a sep arate access and extra parking at the station. :
Coun. Stuart Hirst said the application needed to be
weighedagainsttheCoreStrat- egy, and Coun Susan Bibby said the visual impact had to be considered.
The village website Langho Matters welcomed therefusal,
but warned: “As with other planning applications, the developers are atliberty to ap peal to the Planning Inspec torate and the action group will need to continue its fight on behalf of residents.” The campaigners thanked
Coun Hirst, Coun Bibby, County Coun. Alan Schofield, parish councillor Frank Ha- vard, Looking Glass Hair, and Beauty and Spa for display ing posters and St Mary’s Par ish Centre and Billington and Langho Parish Centre forpro- viding meeting places.
