VVith Chnstmas just around the comer, preparations are once again un der way to ensureas many Ribble Valley children as possible get a visit from Clithenoe Round Table's Santa's Sleigh and Grotto. The annual Santa’s Sleigh collections are a great treat for kids, but they also raise thousands of pound for local charities and good causes, so or ganisers hope that once again local residents will give generously. Last year alone more than £6,000 was raised for local good causes. The traditional Round Table Chnstmas collections have been a popular
. feature of the festive season in and around Clitheroe for many yean now. All the collectors are volunteers who give up their free time to' try to '
■ make a positive difference in their local community and the members of Clitheroe Round Table meet all their own administration costs. Please note that members of Round Table cannot guarantee that Santa - will bring all of the presents that children (and sometimes adults too) have asked for, but they have given assurances that if you've been good and go to bed early on Christmas Eve, Santa and his helpers will do their

Almost £2,500 was raised at a beach party that was held to celebrate a young Clitheroe girl’s triumph over cancer. Katie Robbins was just six
years old whenherfamily was told the devastating news she had cancer. Her mum, Carol, ex
plained: “After a biopsy and an operation to have a Hick man line put in, we discovered she had stage four wilms tu mour, which is cancer of the
kidney that had also spread to her lung. “The tumour was so large!
it destroyed the right kidney and it had to be removed along with the tumour once she had had six weeks of chemother
apy- “Luckily the treatment
worked - the tumours in her lungs disappeared and the kidney was safely removed. Shethenwentontohavemore. chemotherapyonceaweekfor the next nine months to pre vent the cancer returning.” This was a very difficult
time for Katie and her family and in celebration of Katie be ing cancer free for five years they decided to raise money for one of the charities that
helped them through this dif ficulttime.

triumph over cancer, arid to give something back to Clic Sargent for all the help they received, the Robbins family held a charity beach party at the Royal British Legion Club
' in Clitheroe back June. A huge success, raising a
total of £2,414-16 for Clic Sar-' gent, the family would like to thank everyone involved in cluding those who gave gen erous donations to the raffle.
