What qualifications do I need? Qualifications are an important
aspect ofbeing a fitness instructor, both forsecuring clientsand ensuring safe practice. I have completed mam' qualificationsinchidinggeneraIN\'Q co u r^ such as Level 2 exercise and fitness andLevelsPersonal Training, supported by a wide range of specific
• courses covering areas such as .spinning andZumba.
Aiqr other requirements? You don’t necessarily need much
experience, but you do need a passion for keeping fit and living a healthy lifestyle.
How long does it take to qualify? I went to college to study exercise and fitness, the course was a year-long so after
a year I got a job as a Fitness Instructor at a local golf club. During this time I
achieved further qualifications including completion of my spinning course. Pump' FX, exercise to music & Zumba.
Whatsortofstartingsalaryand package can you expect?
While working as a fitness instructor you can expect a salary of around £12,000
a year. As a self-employed trainer it’s around £18,000 a year but it depehds on class numbers and sessions.
What sort of personal skills make
someone best suited to a fitness trainer? Being fiiendly, confident and
approachable are all key skills in this role whilst being patient and having the ability to explain things clearly. •
What sort of career prospects and structure is there?
Being a fitness instructor involves
helping people to achieve goals and to become and stay fit, either in a gym environment or in a more informal location. Work can either be salaried.
freelance or self-employed.
What kind of job satisfaction can you expect &om being a Personal trainer? ■ The satisfaction I get is amazing, especially when clients teU me howmuch
I have helped them achieve their goals and get into shape. ,
Inso words, sell your profession? I really do love my job. It makes me feel
good, whilst making others feel good at the same time.
am my own boss. Teaching classes is lots of run and it
doesn’t really seem like work. It is very satisfying and rewarding also I • AMAZING; Lauren Wilson enjoys helping others achieve
