MORE than 70 people took part in a sponsored walk in
m emory of Fiona Watson on Saturday.
The 23-yep-old from Langho died of diabetes complica tions in January while work-
ingintheskiresortofMeribel, France.
The 10km walk, organised
by Fiona’s family, set off from the Knowles Arms, Langho,
and passed places that were important in Fiona’s life, In- cludingherschools,whereshe worked and the church where she was baptized and started her life’s journey. Fiona’s dad Chris {52) and
her two brothers Aiden (u) and Daniel (26)completedthewalk
. with Aiden raising a staggering £400 alone in sponsorship. Bucket collections during
the walk raised around anoth er £400 andthereisstill mon ey to be counted from lo more
buckets-Funds raised through two Justgiving websites have also raised £2,400 so far. All the money will be donated to
the charity Diabetes UK. One of Fiona’s best friends
Christina Mitchell {23) organ ised T-shirts for the walkers and all of her friends took part in the walk.
Chris said: “The walk went ve^ well. It was a hot day and
quite a lot of us got sun burnt. “I would like to thank eve
ryone who turned up, people who didn’t even know Fiona. It was a veiy good turn out and
aveiygoodresponsewithlots - of people donating.” The beauty therapist and
former St Augustine’s pupil had type one diabetes and- went in to a coma, triggered by
a hypoglycemic attack, while asleep. Fiona lived with diabetes from 13 months old, theyoung-
, est person at that time in the local area to be diagnosed with diabetes. Despite also being di agnosed with Coeliac Disease at the age of 13 and being dys lexic, Fiona led a full and active life and was awarded a Young Achiever Award by Ribble Val-
