best bands seen in Clitheroe as part of the club’s programme; we were treated to an awesome display of tightly knit grooves from the Magic Hat Ensemble — a quintet fea turing Steve Chadwick leading on trumpet, Tony Ormester on guitar, Andrzej Baranek on piano, Nick Blacka on double bass and Rob Turner on drums, “Magic” being the operative word. Launching without ceremony into their first set — delayed by 10 minutes but e.xpect-

A VARIETY of music con certs taking place at Christ Church Chatburn have proved so popular that plans are in hand for the series to continue. The concerts have been ar
ranged to raise funds for the re placement of the church organ and while making a valuable contribution to the fund, the con certs have proved to be popular in their own right, the last two being sellout events. The first concert was in De
cember in the candlelit church where the choir from The Grand gave a performance of Christmas songs and carols. This was fol lowed in March with folk music from local group The Garage Band.
The next concert takes place
tomorrow, June 24th, at 7-30 p.m., when Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues-presents The Mark Lewis Trio. They will be joined by special guests, the legendary
jazz musician Wilf Nuttail on vibes, sophisticated vocals from Lyn Fairbanks and the talented saxophone playing from the re markable 16-year-old Tom Al- lonby.
