A LOVING home is being sought for seven cute white rabbits found by police, , Initially four rabbits were dis covered by PCSOs Jane Pearson and Matt Thornton, who were on their way back from Clitheroe via Sabden last week. • A man approached them to
say he had spotted three white rabbits in a nearby lay-by and he thought they had been dumped- m a bush.
p e s o Pearson explained:
“Myself and Matt went to inves tigate and when we got there we realised there were four rabbits that had been left abandoned. ■ “One older female with what I
assume are her daughter and hvo sons.'' ■
“The younger ones are ap- proximately six-months old. They -
were cold, wet, muddy and petri fied. Matt managed to get a card board box from the garage in Si- monstone and we put them in the box and drove them over to the RSPCA at Huncoat. However, the RSPCA were not able to take
them in as they were already full. “By this time, 1 was attached
to the little bunnies, so I offered to take them home. The RSPCA checked the rabbits over for me, trimmed their nails as they were ridiculously long and growing back on themselves. The mother had a claw missing completely ” •
ent me a cage for the boys and a ■ • hutch for the girls until I can get
She added: “The RSPCA also
, them re-homed. They are albino rabbits and very friendly. They are absolutely gorgeous. I can’t believe that anyone could treat animals this way. It’s horrible and
- so irresponsible. I believe that : ifwe hadn’t found thbm, they
would have died or been hunted by a wild animal.” : - Animal lover PCSO Pear
son, who already has two dogs, a chinchilla^ six fish and a horse, got more than she bargained for when she woke up on Monday morning and discovered three baby rabbits had been born! “I now have seven rabbits and
am appealing to kind-hearted Ribble Valley people to come forward and house the unwanted bunnies. . ■ ■ “I would also like to stress how important it is to look after pets properly and not to take them on. unless you are prepared for the, hard work. Any animal can cause disruption,’ but rabbits make - lovely pets and can be vciy affec-: tionate.” Please call PCSO Pearson on:

. care he needs. . Fourteen-year-old Kundai Mangoma suffers from
a rare disease which has caused a huge tumour on the right hand side of his face; this has left him with breathing difficulties and blindness in one eye. He is in much pain from the disfiguration of his jaw and
facial bones and finds it difficult to eat and speak. Kundai’s parents lost all their life savings in Zim-
, babwe’s economic turmoil and are therefore unable to pay any of the medical bills which could improve their son’s condition.
> Stonyhiirst College sixth formers Sophie Le Breton
and Natalie Crouch, both from Hurst Green, were so moved by Kundai’s bravery in dealing with his con dition that they were determined to raise £5,000 for surgery which could change his life: in Zimbabwe they met a surgeon who told them about the major operation which should fully restore his sight, ease

his breathing and discomfort and significantly change his appearance. The operation is scheduled to take place in Harare in late August, so if it is to go ahead they had no time to lose!
• “Kundai was lovely, very shy and uncomplaining,”
said Sophie, who is taking her A level exams this month. “We were really moved to hear that his sister had died quite recently and realised that many of the things we take for granted here, like antibiotics, just aren’t available to Zimbabweans. We were deter mined to help and as soon as we got back to school, started a campaign to raise the money.” A “Kundai Committee” was formed immediately
at the college, with representatives from all year groups putting up posters throughout the school and organising fund-raising activities. Since Febru ary, Kundai T-shirts, a “Home Clothes Day”, weekly cake stalls, an art competition, fun run and charity dinners have raised more than £4,000. Sophie, Na talie and the committee are still doing all they can to reach their target by the end of term! . -
