A WELL-RESPECTED Ribble Val­ ley man has died aged 69. Mr John Keith Pollard, who was chair­


man of Whalley Golf Club for the past 10 years, died after suffering a heart attack on April 4th. Mr Pollard was married to Ann and


had two children, David and Jane, and two grandchildren. He started his working career as a


production engineer near Manchester — later diversifying and running his own company buying and selling commercial vehicle spares. He retired two years ago. ; Born m Accrington, Mr Pollard lived


there until 2001'when he and his family moved to Read. - He was an active man with many inter­


ests. Mr Pollard became involved in Ac­ crington Round Table until 40 years of age. He then joined the 41 Club. He was also a keen bridge player and was chair­ man of Great Harwood Bridge Club and a member of Brierfield and Clitheroe Bridge Clubs. , As a young man he was a keen football­


er and.tennis player and later in life took a keen interest in golf. He was a member o f Whalley Golf Club and in time became captain then president of the club. For the past 10 years he was chairman of the club.


; He was also an avid supporter of


Blackburn Rovers FC and followed their progress with great interest. ^ Paying tribute, his wife Ann said: “John was a very, fun-loving person and very


; generous. He was kind, caring and always thought about others before himself. He enjoyed life to the full.” ■ Mr Pollard’s funeral service will be held tomorrow at 11-15 a.m. at St John’s - Church,'Read, with refreshments after- . wards at Whalley Golf Club.
