CLITHEROE born Adam Bar ton will swop his football boots for dancing shoes when his band per

form at The Grand this weekend. The Arctic Monkees, Adam’s tribute

band, will be supporting another trib ute band From The Jam on Saturday. From The Jam’s members include

The Jam’s original legendary bass gui tarist Bruce.Foxton, drummer Mark . Brzezicki, formerly of Ultravox, The Cult and Procol Harum, and vocalist Russell Hastings. Adam himself will be following in

musical footsteps as his father Peter has played with members from the Ani mals, the Boomtown Rats and Booker TandtheMGs. Adam (19) also plays professional

football for Preston North End and said: “It’s brilliant for us. I was a bit surprised my Dad put us forward for it. Actually getting up there and playing with big names like Bruce Foxton is a great opportunity. “The band started at school. A few of us would get together and start

jamming. I’d play bass and my other mates guitar and then we formed the band which is when I moved on to the drums.

Go and enjoy the wonderful a cappella music, with all kinds of favourites including, of course, the famous I'Up On The Roof’.

accomplished musical director Howard Gray and also to Choreographer Franc esca Jaynes. Together they nave helped the cast to give renditions that preserve the idea that these are supposedly ama teur student singers and yet are very pro fessional.

' Some of the routines are hilarious. Fox-'

ton has designed three sets for each of the acts as well as clever costumes to reflect each era as well as the changes in the characters’ circumstances. The hairstyles are amazing. I f s hard to believe now that we wore such mops! '

' The Coliseum’s next production, start

ing on May 20th, is “The Memory of Wa ter”, by Shelagfi Stephenson, a superb: playwright, writing about the effect of the . death of their mother on three sisters. It is both funny and poignant. I’ve seen this • play before and! am really looking for- : ward to seeing it again.
