Youngsters have a showstopping time

Talk about shoes CLOVER Club members heard about
the history of shoes. Guest speaker Linda Sawley descnbed
how footwear was first made and explained that men were the first wearers
of heeled shoes. She then went on to show many p a p
of her own size three shoes and also dis played a wonderful collection of minia- tiue metal shoes in all shapes and colours. An entertaining evening was enjoyed by
aU present. Members were told that the Christmas
party had been hooked and that help was needed for the coffee morning in the Rib- ble Valley Mayor's Parlour between 10 a.m. and noon this Saturday. As well as there will be a bring and buy stall
and a raffle in aid of local guiding and the Friends of Chernobyl's Children.

the fourth consecutive summer club to be held at Trinity Methodist
Church. For two hours the children learned about God's great plan for the world by singing songs and listening to different Bible stories which looked at creation, Daniel and the Lions' Den, David and Goliath and the birth of Jesus. They also took part in a
craft activity related to the day's story, and had the chance to help with some big pictures, leam a dance routine, dress up
and have their faces pant ed. On the final morning they also had the chance to show off their own
skills in the “Trinity's Got Talent” show. One of the organisers,
Mrs Jean Robinson, sdd: “The children who came along, and all the adult helpers, really enjoyed our holiday club. Everyone said it had been great fun and th a t they'd had a great time.” (s)

Will you run for Amelia?

THE Amelia Cup 10k run, which raises funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, will take place next month. Now in its seventh year, the annual
event will be held on Sunday, October 11th. I t will s ta r t and finish at West
Bradford Village Hall, with competi tive runners, fun runners, joggers and walkers all welcome to take part in the event, which is a family day out and suitable for aU ages. ' The run, which was inspired by
young Whalley cystic fibrosis sufferer Amelia Dickinson, allows participants to compete for the coveted Amelia Cup and has so far raised in the region of £44,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

FINE weather greeted Clitheroe Naturalists as they arrived in the Lake District for a walk in the Patterdale area. The group made its way south passing Crook-:
aheck and Beckstones and enjoyed views of- Helvellyn and siurounding fells during the lunch-
stop. After Angletarn Beck's waterfalls were admired the intended route proved impassable so walk leader C. Pickles decided to make use of a bridleway to reach Hartsop village. The walkers then turned north towards Cow ■ Bridge and Low Wood before making their way
back to Patterdale. Butterflies seen included peacock, red admiral, painted lady, green veined white and small tortoiseshell, while 57 flower
species were also noted. Chairman Muriel Carruthers said it had been
an enjoyable day and thanked the leader. ......... iSIl
