IWebsite aimed at More fears over build proposals

putting us off?

HAVING drawn up a list of sites where .housing development might take place in the future, the Kibble Valley Borough Coun cil is currently in the middle of a consultation period for its “Strategic Housing Land Avail ability Assessment” (SHLAA). I visited the council's website

to find out which sites are being considered for development. First of all I had great difficul

ty navigating the site to find the appropriate section. Having done so, I found that

some of the relevant documents were listed twice and even three

times. Eventually I discovered that

details of individual sites were to be found under the heading of “Seen as deliverable in 'n' years”. Not only was the title uninfor-

1 mative, but worse was to follow; i the sites are referred to by Refer- 1 ence Number only, with no indi cation whatsoever as to where

I they are or a name. I At this point I almost gave up. I I t was only by opening several other documents that I was even

tually able to trawl through one

i of 95 pages to discover a list of Site Names linked to Reference Numbers; a t this point I was finally able to go back to the “Seen as deliverable” section and open details of sites I was inter ested in. It was almost as if the layout

of this section of the council web site had been deliberately designed to put people off, mak ing a mockery of the consultation

process. This section of the council's

website needs an urgent over haul, to make it easier for mem bers of the public to find out which areas are being considered for possible future housing devel opment. Because up to now it has been

so difficult to find this informa tion, would it not be appropriate for the council to extend the con sultation period?

ANTHONY A. COOPER, Peel Park Avenue, ClUhcroc ■

• Editor’s note: As reported else

where in this edition, the deadline for comments on the SHLAA has been extended by a fortnight to

June 5th. ' We also contacted Kibble Valley-

Borough Council for a response to the points raised by Mr Cooper. A spokesman for the council

replied; “The council’s website is currently under review after con sultation with councillors and the general public.

“The revised webate will feature several improvements, including

'

improved navigation. “We appreciate th a t the

SHLAA is a complex document and our forward planning team are happy to discuss it with members of the public.”- -

ARE the people of Clitheroe fully aware of the current proposals with regard to the Strategic Hous ing Land Availability Assessment as set out by Ribble Valley Bor ough Clouncil? As a resident in one of the pro

posed new housing areas, it was only by chance that we found out about the proposals. You only have until Friday, June 5th, to forward any comments on the proposals. Whilst it is close to the deadline, I urge the townsfolk of Clitheroe to take a look at the RVBC website - Strategic Housing Land Availabil ity link.

Thanks to all for

festival sell-out CLITHEROE Beer Festival was a sell-out last weekend, running out of beer at 9-30 on Saturday night. The event, which is organised by

CAMRA East Lancashire and the St Mary’s Centre (where it is held) is now in its fourth year and this year there were over 60 beers and 12 ciders, as well as bottled beers. On Saturday afternoon the hall reached its capacity and people were queuing to get in. Thank you to the 40 local busi

nesses who supported us by spon soring barrels of beer and a special thanks to Forbes Solicitors for their very generous sponsorship of

the glasses. We are delighted by the response

of the attendees, who all seemed to leave in a very happy state. Thank you as well to all the vol

unteers who worked tirelessly dur ing the week before, during the weekend and breaking things down on Sunday. RICHARD JACKSON,

Chairman, - Si Mary’s Management Commitlcc

. ' Still too afraid to

venture outside! WELL who'd a thowt it! One letter could cause such a stir.

What words could I have used to upset so many, was it elephant? Beast? Preston Guild? Or indeed back kitchen?!

to the “steady hand of the com mittee at the tiller”.

Should that not read “all hands

on deck lads, she's goin' down”! And Mr O'ReiUy points out that

the viilage hall has toilets, oh yes Mr O'Reilly, but are they the flush

grave danger of disappearing up, the white elephant’s rear, and if last week’s letter is anything to go by it. is doubtful if he will ever find his way out. I ’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Harris

for his support on this matter. Yours, still too frightened to set foot outade our front door...

ATheCiilbene Don’t write off

our village hall MR NUTTER, I am surprised you feel that the village hall is a “white elephant”. It is the meeting place of many village groups, the Women’s Institute, youth club and toddler group, to name but a few. There have been cabaret nights,

pantomimes and many private functions enjoyed by villagers and viators alike TOere better than to hold a charity “do” or a birthday bash? In these hard times, I feel a little encouragement from our community would be more appro priate than writing it off.

Join US for this

special reunion MY friend from school, Josle Crowdy, along with another friend,

Valerie Lofthouse, is visiting me this week and I thought it would be a good opportunity for her to meet up with friends from the past and chat about old times. Josie emigrated to Canada over

30 years ago so this is a rare visit. Anyone wishing to meet up please contact me, Marlene Birtwell (nee Dewhurst), to arrange details on 01282772896.

Show was a treat

- well done to all! WHAT a festive treat a "Kick in ; the Baubles" was by Bolton-by- Bowland Drama Group. I t was very professionally acted, and all the characters really entered into

' the spirit of things. What a won derful set too, very inviting, I could have happily lived there myself! Cheers to everyone involved.
