takes a break from accompanying the celebrated Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Band, to perform an exclusive concert with her accomplished band, at The Grand in Clitheroe, on Friday, June 26th. It promises to be a rare treat for Ribbie Valley
music lovers as another leading light from the music world is attracted to the region's rapidly developing state-of-the-art venue. The breadth of Ruby’s output mirrors her
many influences from the Gospel roots of her childhood through to souL'pop and R 'n' B. Be it soaring ballads or up-tempo grooves, Jamaican born Ruby is truly the genuine article. Ruby first gained attention in the mid-1980's
when she joined chart toppers Culture Club at the height of their stardom. An offer of a solo record deal closely followed and she signed to Jive Records releasing four albums and a "Best Of" compilation, which made her a household
name..- This period spawned the hits "I’d Rather Go
Blind", "If You’re Ready (Come Go With Me)" and, in the American R ’n’ B chart, the no 1 hit single "It’s Gonna Be Alright" - one of fewer
. than 10 British records to achieve such status. Ruby’s many collaborations read like a
"Who’s who?" of the' music world. On her hit album "The Motown Songbook" she performed
l e s s e d with a voice that has been iikened to Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin, Ruby Turner breathes life and
with The Temptations, The Four Tops and Jimmy Ruffin. She has since appeared on releases with Bryan Ferry, Mick dagger, UB40, Steve Winwood and many more over the years. Her fans have been equally enraptured by
her solo career, the heights of which were laid bare in her superb 2005 studio album "So Amazing", a record that best revealed the passionate and emotional strength of her song writing. One of these tracks, "Ain’t Cried", was featured on the BBC’s drama series Silent Witness. More recently, her voice has gained universal
acclaim as a key feature of Jools Holland’s 18- piece Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. The ensemble toured the world throughout 2008 and released the brilliant album, "The Informer". This features Ruby on seven of the tracks including the title song. On the back of this. Ruby has turned into
quite the television star, performing on a range of mainstream TV from The Richard and Judy Show to the BBC’s New Year’s Eve Hootenay progamme. This seems a natural progression for Ruby after appearing in a number of West End productions such as "Simply Heavenly", "One Love", "A Street Car Named Desire" and
"Fame". This year has seen Ruby release a new album
of vintage Gospel, entitled " I’m Travelling On", and a packed tour schedule alongside Jools Holland and in her own right. This is truly a Clitheroe experience not to be
missed!
Ruby Turner will be appearing at The Grand, in Clitheroe. (S)
