Museum reopens to the public on Saturday, May 23rd, after a multi-million pound two-year refurr bishment funded by Ribble Valley Borough Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the SITA Trust, as well as several private sector part ners and community groups. The scheme features a glass atrium linking the

museum and North West Sound Archives on two levels, a cafe, exhibition space, interactive display. facilities and education suite, as well as several exhibitions depicting the history of Ribble Valley.

The museum will be run by Lancashire County

Council’s museum service and ethical food com pany Gold and Brown, of Harrogate, will run the cafe, branded a “Caffetessen”. ONE of the not-to-be-missed highlights of Clitheroe Festival weekend is a trip out to Bashall Bam.

Whether you travel aboard the vintage

steam bus making regular round trips.from Clitheroe’s Platform Gallery, or get there under your own steam, an array of delights awaits at Bashall. Just a few weeks after opening its doors to

the public, the Bashall Barn Food Visitor Centre has been selected by the Daily Tele graph as one of the top 50 farm shops in the country. “The steam bus will be bringing people up

from Clitheroe throughout the Saturday and Sunday of the festival weekend and we want to give them a bit of a show,” said Simon Bames, of Bashall Bam. “We’ve teamed up with the other businesses on site to create a packed programme of events throughout the weekend. “As well as our own ice-cream making

demonstrations, the Bowland Brewery next door will be running brewery tours on Satur day morning and all day on Sunday, Bowland Pork will be making and linking sausages, Ribblesdale Honey will show people what goes on inside a beehive and how honey is made and Stems Floral Design and Plant Centre are running short demonstrations on hanging basket desi^ throughout Sunday.” As well as the various demonstrations and

tours, that will be timed to coincide with the arrivals and departures of the steam bus, vis itors can shop for home-made cakes, local cheeses, Bowland Brewery beers and a wide range of goodies and gifts before enjoying fine foods and refreshments in the new coffee shop and restaurant, with wonderful views across to Kemple End. And one lucky reader can w n the best of

Bashall in a basket. Simon and the team at Bashall Barn are putting together a luxuri ous hamper of produce on sale there, which you could win by answering the question in the coupon and sending it to us by the clos ing date. For more information about Bashall Barn

and the attractions there all year round, visit: \vww.bashallbarn.co.uk • Readers should note that the hamper pic

tured is for illustration purposes only, as many of the locally produced items are fresh ly made and would be packed on the day of collection by the mnner.

Scheme will make

shopping a pleasure DISABLED people in Clitheroe can enjoy their independence while shopping in the town - thanks to a new scheme. The Shopmobility stall opened earlier this

month on Clitheroe Market enabling disabled people to hire a mobility scooter while they enjoy shopping in the town for only £4 a day. The stall is being' run by local resident

Simon O’Rourke, who was involved in an acci dent in August 2003 when an articulated lorry that he was driving overturned. As a result of the accident, father-of-two

Simon lost the use of his right leg and foot and became wheelchair-bound. He struggled to get out and about on the streets of Clitheroe until a year later when he received a new mobility scooter funded by members of Clitheroe Lions, Clitheroe Round Table and the Lancaster Charitable Foundation. Speaking about the initiative, Simon said;

“We have four new mobility scooters, an elec tric wheelchair and a manual wheelchair. All these machines have been kindly donated by Affordable Mobility, in . York Street, Clitheroe. The stall will be open on Tuesday, Thurs

day and Saturday. Pictured is Simon’s 10-year-old daughter,

k orsha with the ex-Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. John Hill, cutting the ribbon to offi cially open the stall. Also pictured is Simon (front) and Korsha’s friends and pupils from Edisford Primary School. .
