PIONEER 79 swimmer Luke Tasker has been selected to represent Great, Britain at the Europe Cup Modem Pentathlon in the Czech Republic. Fifteen-year-old Luke,


from Waddington, gained selection for the Under 16 team after impressing at cup events held through-


' out the season up and ; down the country. He will be the youngest

male selected and still has one more year remaining in this age group. He made his debut in


the squad last year aged just 14. ■ Luke will be part of a four-strong GB team and


the events are pistol shoot­ ing, 200m freestyle swim and a 2km run. A total team score will


determine the medals and the team is hoping to grab a top-three spot after fin­ ishing in the top eight last year. Luke trains with head


coach Lee Stringfellow at Blackburn and Hyndbum- based Pioneer 79 Swim­ ming Club which this year celebrates its 30th anniver­ sary. - His coach said: “Luke


has been hammering the miles over recent months in preparation to compete for his country. “He is a formidable


competitor who trains very, very hard. “Luke has achieved per­


sonal bests in all strokes lately, but has really begun to concentrate on the 200 free event. “He is hoping to go

and Rossendaie Coliege, led the field in the ladies’ A 20s 800m race, to win in a personal best time of 2 mins 07.92 secs - the sec­ ond fastest time ever achieved at the event. Leigh is now ranked sec­


ond in Great Britain for Under 20s. Robbie, of Sawiey, a


sixth form pupii at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, led the field from the 300m mark in the men’s A 800m race, win­ ning in a personai best time of 1 min 50.73 secs. ■ Robbie was also second


fastest ever at the event - only 0.42 seconds off the course record.
