WORK done.by Hyndbum and Kibble Valley Council for Volun ta ry Service (CVS) was high lighted a t a drop-in event for local councillors. ; The CVS office a t Swan Mews,

off Castle Street, Ciitheroe, has recently been refurbished and st^f there decided to celebrate by show ing local councillors - as key repre-. sentatives of the whole community - the wide range of work they do. CVS exists to support, the many

voluntary, community and fmth sec tor activities under way in the com munities of Ribble.Valley an4 Hyn- dburn. Over the past year it has helped local groups to secure almost £150,000 in outside funding for Rib ble Valley activities and initiatives. The CVS works closely with the

Lancashire Local Strategic Partner ship (LSP) - a single body that brings together at local level various public sector agencies with people fern the private,,business, commu nity and voluntary sectors, so that

different initiatives and services sup port each other and work together. ■ I t also provides a v ita l link between Ribble Valley Borough Council and the LSP, helping them both to connect and engage with the Lancashire VCFS Consortium - the; “voice” of the voluntary, communi ty and faith sector. The practical support and advice which the CVS gives to voluntary and community groups increases their sustainability and capacity to achieve their com munity goals. ■ During the visit, Ribble Valley

Mayor Coun. John Hill presented certificates to some of the local groups which received funding through the Ribble VaUey Children’s Trust (Acorn Fund). The Acorn Fund is managed by CVS on behalf of Ribble Valley Children's Trust, which works to benefit children aged five to 13. - Over the coming year the Trust is seeking to fund projects which will improve the health and wellbeing of children in this age group. Grants of £500 are now available, with the next deadline being June 19th.

She represents Clitheroe’s St Mary’s Ward on the borough council and is a Liberal- Democrat, although, in her role as Mayor, she will adopt a position of political neutrality. Deputy Mayor for the coming

municipal year will be Langho ward councillor Lois Rimmer, with her husband Gordon as her

consort. Our picture shows the new Mayor Coun. Jones (front, left) and Deputy Mayor Coun. Rimmer (front, right) a t the cere mony.
