RIBBLESDALE Wander ers were unable to deny Barnoldswick a derby clash with Earby in the second round of the Raras- bottom Cup, after losing by seven wickets at 'Victo- . lyPark. On the opening day of

the season, David Scoth- ern’s men lost to the locals by five runs, after Wander ers’ substitute professional Ken Skewes’ hat-trick proved vital. But Barnoldswick eased

past Gary Hunt’s side after bowling the visitors out for 213 inside 43 overs. The sides tried to battle

through the rain on Satur day, but eventually recon vened on Sunday. Wanderers enjoyed a

solid start, and a 10th- wicket partnership worth 40 looked to have given their bowlers a decent total to defend - following a middle order collapse when Ribblesdale went from 132-3 to 173-9. Sub-professional Sikan- dar Raza and Alistair

No repeat for Wanderers

Marsh shared 55 for the opening wicket, with - George Braithwaite hav-. - ing Marsh caught by Liam Bedford for 13. But Raza continued to

score at a healthy rate alongside Craig Hall, until the home skipper had him caught by Zahid.Iqbal for . a56-balI58at98. : Hall followed 10 runs

later for 28, Sajid Akhtar taking the catch off Iqbal, and John Rain could only add five before he nicked one behind to Matthew Nutter off Iqbal at 132. That instigated a col

lapse, as five wickets fell for the addition of just 41, runs, with Shaukat Sheraz claiming 3-37 off seven overs.

. Final pair Barry

Spencer and Ian Britcliffe managed to eke out the total to 213, however, as they •

frustrated

Barnoldswick for a period. Britcliffe was finally out

for 25, off just 19 balls, with Spencer unbeaten on 18.

' . . First Division - . In reply, Barnoldswick':

paced their run chase to perfection, for the loss of only three wickets, as they ,, won in the 46th over. ■ ■ Jamie Oldfield fell at 32,

caught behind off Brit cliffe for 14, but fellow- opener Nutter continued towards a half-century with Liam Bedford, : . Nutter fell four short of

his 50, at 67, with Bedford out Ibw four runs later - both falling to Ryan Glad win - but Paul Beech and sub-pro Mohammed Asif, compiled a stand worth 143 to ease Barnoldswick into the next round. .

'Asif was the more

aggressive of the two, fin ishing unbeaten on 86 off 76 balls, wth six fours and seven sixes, while Beech made exactly 50 off 83 deliveries as the home side avenged their league set back. On Saturday, Wanderers

are at Padiham, back in league action.

Clitheroe through but Whalley out

A FINE all-round team effort helped Clitheroe move through to the last eight of the Ramsbottom Cup. Peter Dibb’s men enjoyed a 57-run wn

over Settle in a game that stretched into Sunday due to the weather, and Clitheroe will now face derby rivals Read, who had ■ a bye.

" • ClitheroB had first use of the wicket,

and after losing opener John Green mth- out scoring, former skipper Neil Bolton and professional Paul Turner laid the foundations. Dickon Morris had .Turner caught by

paid man Brent Findley for 24, and ho enjoyed further success as he removed Dibb (7) and Josh McDowell (1) cheaply. However, Bolton and Andrew Pearce

settled things down again and began to compile a defendable total. Bolton was finally out for 59, giving

John Tarbox a return catch, but Pearce found further support from Farook Butt., Thomas Strickland bowled Pearce for

42, but Butt, finishing unbeaten on 23, helped Clitheroe out to 177-6 after their 48 overs.

.

- Morris was the pick of the Settle bowlers with 3-33 from his 10 overs. ; , Clitheroe made light work of Settle’s • reply, bowling the visitors out for 120 in the 43rd over, with all six bowlers taking wickets. , The only batsman to provide any resist

ance was Matthew Wildman, who made 65 before Pearce claimed a caught and; bowled, while only Strickland (19) could. join him in double figures.

with.3-31 off nine overs, while Josh Mar- quet (2-15) and Dibb (2-28) also , impressed.' , McDowell took four victims behind the

stumps. On Saturday, Clitheroe are at home to - Cherry Tree in the league.

IN-FORM batsman Lee Kearsley was unable to prevent 'Whalley stumbling out of the Ramsbottom Cup to Oswaldtwistle Immanuel. Immanuel eased to victory by 61 runs

after bowling the locals out for 114, with Andrew Metcalf claiming 5-18. Kearsley made 54 of those runs, off 76

balls, as he took his seasonal tally to 187 from five innings, with an average of 62.33. But his side were never in contention. Richard Palmer won the toss and put

Immanuel in, and Daniel Metcalf and Alamgir Anwar made an impressive start. They shared 47 before Anwar was

caught by Gregory Jones off David O’Neill for 41, which came off just 28 balls, with three fours and two sixes. . Professional Andrew Kerr ensured

Immanuel continued to make seamless progress, and he made 38 from 52 deliver ies before being trapped by Declan Fitzhenry at 107. • Oliver Clare made only two before

being bowled by professional Vinit Indulkar, but Mitch Taylor gave further support to Metcalf, m'aking 29 in a stand of 48 before Mark Fallon had him caught • by Stephen Booth.' ■'.

• Fallon struck again to'send back Met- . calf for 51, off 145 balls, and O’N e i l l , snared Andrew Metcalf as Immanuel closed on 175-6. '
