- Determined for her wed

ding to go-ahead on the same day, Kelly, ,who works as an IT teacher at Accrington and

Rossendale College, spent last Wednesday desperately find ing another venue. She breathed a sigh of relief when she managed to secure The Millstone Hotel, in Mellon “People at the Millstone

Hotel have been brilliant and very helpful. I have had to re arrange my guest list, but Sal and I are delighted and count ourselves fortunate to have secured a place.” However, because the wed

ding time and venue had changed, Kelly’s biggest chal

lenge was to ensure her notice of marriage was registered in time for the big day. In order for this to happen, she had to speak to the superintendent;

registrar. “The whole thing has been,

one big worry. Your wedding is the most important day of your life, so what happened was terrible. Thankfully, our wedding is still going ahead on the date we.wanted, but

; we just want everyone else to know the situation as I know there are other couples in the

same boat as us.” The Moorcock Hotel ii

owned by Stephen and Andrew Thornber, who werJ unavailable to comment on the matter. A message on thi Moorcock hotel’s websita reads as follows: “Due to thJ current economic climate ana the bank's decision to with! draw support, the Moorcoclj Inn has ceased trading. “We are seeking profesaoni

Travel agent Derek retires

TRA V E L a g e n t Derek S tu t ta fd is re t ir in g from Althams travel agency in ’ Clitheroe after completing almost 24 years’ service. Derek (64, pictured), who

has always been interested in geography and travel, started work at the King Street agency on October 2nd, 1985,

■ and under his leadership, it was recently named the top Althams travel agency in the North of England. “This award has been the

pinnacle of my career,” Derek explained. “When I first joined, the agency was back in 15th position and it’s great th a t after all these years of hard work i t ’s now number one. A well known Clitheroe per

sonality, putside of .work Derek has always been very . active in the local community. He has been a member of Clitheroe Rotary Club for many years and was president of the club in 2002/2003. ' “I would like to thank the

people of Clitheroe for accept ing and supporting me all these years. Without them, I couldn’t have done it!” said Derek, who has commuted from his home in Burnley to Clitheroe every day. “I ’ve worked out i t ’d be

• around the same mileage as circumventing the world five times!” he added.

. . And after making Clitheroe

his second home, Derek has no plans to lose contact with

the town. “I t ’s a lovely town to work

in with very friendly and sociable people. I t ’s been a real pleasure to work here,” said Derek, who praised all

the staff he has worked with over the years for their com mitment and dedication. During his retirement,

Derek is looking forward to pursuing his hobbies, which include gardening, walking and travelling. He has booked a family hol

iday to Greece and a special retirement month-long cruise to the Black Sea in September with his \vife, Kay.

“ Derek, who has two grown up daughters and three grandsons, has also jus t bought a season ticket for Burnley FC for himself and his eldest grandson. A lifelong supporter of the club, Derek has been unable to attend matches previously because his career demanded he worked Saturdays. New manager Ian Gratton,

(53), who has many years’ ■ experience in the travel indus try and has special knowledge of skiing destinations as well as worldwide holidays, took; over this week. Derek’s final day is May 29th. (A050509/1)
