TANDEM power is help- ing to Raise the Roof a t ' a Clitheroe church. ■ Former minister of Clitheroe ■ - United Reformed Church, the Rev. Norma Johnson, who retired in January this year, is returning for a visit in an unusual way. -. She and her husband, George, will be making -

the journey to Clitheroe on a tandem from their new home in Marske, near Redcar - a distance of more than 120 miles.; : They intend to arrive

a t the church at about 4-. 30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17th, when church members will be waiting to receive them. : ■ At the beginning of

this year, Norma couldn’t even ride a bike, let alone a tandem, so the long distance ride wil be quite an achievement. ■ George, however, is a

keen cyclist and has been training her to be a good back seat rider.

• .

Together .they are using the ride to make . money through sponsor

ship and donations towards the Raise the Roof Appeal' a t the Clitheroe (Ihurch, gener atin g funds for much- needed roof repairs. ■ • • Our picture shows

George as “p i lo t” and Norma as “stoker”-on one of their practice ses sions for the long ride to Clitheroe. (s)
