Bridge to close for repair work

ESSENTIAL maintenance work on a bridge in C h a tburn, la te r this year will prevent traffic travelling through the ■village for nine weeks. Crow Trees Brow will close

to t ra f f ic from. S a tu rd ay , October 10th, until Sunday, December 13th, with traffic diverted via Worston Road, the A59 Whalley to Clitheroe Bypass and Sawley Road. Pedestrians ■will still he able

to access the ■village thanks to a tem p o rary bridge, which engineers from Lanc ashire County Council installed on Saturday. : This structure, which goes

over the railway line, was p u t up a t short notice after N e t work'Ra il gave th e council permission to proceed. Complaints had been made

to .the Clitheroe Advertiser last week after this work was delayed leading to the cancel la t io n of a local c h a r i ty evening. ■ The temporary structure.

which will also carry electrici ty, water, telephones, sewers and gas services over, the rail-

: way to Chatburn, is the first v i ta l s tep towards carrying out the essential road bridge

. reconstruction works in the autumn. ■ ... ..... David Hurford, Principal

Engineer (Bridges) a t Lan cashire County Council, said:

“ We are working hard to com plete these vital works while causing the minimum disrup- ■ t io n to th e people of Chat-, bum. ■ “We would like to th an k

villag ers for th e ir patience while this essential work takes

- place. There ■will still be road access to the village via the local bypass during the nine- week building period.” The road bridge, which is :

designed to last for the next 120 years, will replace the cur rent Crow Trees Brow Bridge. T h is h a s been in use since 1870.
