EVEN before he arrived in Clitheroe to officially open the refurbished Castle Museum, HRH the Duke of Gloucester knew something of the good work going on elesewhere in the town. Immediately before, his vis it to


Clitheroe, the Duke was in Lancaster where he -visited the Lancashire Associa­ tion of Clubs for Young People, marking the organisation’s 75th Anniversary Cel­ ebrations. During his visit, he met young people repesenting youth clubs and groups across the county, including sisters April, Lauren and Toni Wilson,. from Tower Hill, in Clitheroe. They told him about their involve­

New venue for the WI area show


FOR over 40 years, the ladies of the WIs in villages around Clitheroe have gathered together on one day of the year to display their various talents. ■ The annual Clitheroe Area WI Show


is all ready to go, albeit this year, in a new location - Edisford Junior.School,. on Edisford Road, Clitheroe, on Satur­ day, July 25th, from 10 a.m. to 4-30 p.m.

ladies from 12 institutes have been busy, making items to show off their skills in the various classes which range from home-made jam, flower arranging


. and cake making to embroidery, paint­ ing and photography, among many other classes, as well as co-operative classes for the indi-vidual branches. There is also a section for children

gained in their section of the show. Each WI branch will be vying for the top spot to receive the trophy for most points in show. Last year Hurst Green amassed


3,957.5 points to become the top insti­ tute, while little Downham and Rim- ington barely reached 500 each, but this does not matter as it is the taking part and the friendship of members that is important, s
