Winning pair On Sunday, Grindle ton cricket eleven travelled towards Settle to play their good friends and rivals Rathmell. Followed by dark clouds. Crossland’s team were antici pating two things, a keenly fought match and rain; they got the latter. Crossland lost the toss and the home- side decided to bat first.

Grindleton’s opening bowler Cherry set the tone for the day removing Walton with the.first deliv ery of the match. A 20 minute delay for rain allowed the

■Rathmell team to regroup. However

. Robinson, the pick of the Grindleton bowlers this season, didn’t allow this to happen. Turning the clock back yet again, Robinson took four for 20, leaving Rathmell struggling at 33 for five. Barton, so often the thorn in Grindleton’s side, only managed 13 before Crossland took a fine catch off Leach to send the Rathmell talisman back to the pavilion. A brief flurry from Mounsey (17) and Denham; (15) afforded the score some respectability before Jackson

■ brough at the crease and, despite one or two chances, the pair began to build a match winning partnership. ■ The score had reached 85 before;/; Middle brough (46) was caught behind, four runs shy of a deserved half-centu ry. Two boundaries from Jackson saw Grindleton home with 18 overs to spare. Whittaker finished 17 not out.

Grindletons man-of- the-match was Robinson, whose bowling once again belied his years; ■
