FOR the sixth year running, the cross country team from Gisburn Primary School has won the Kibble Valley Small Schools’ Cross Country Competition. Ten teams took part, but in the boys’ race, Gis
burn Primary pupils Joshua Frankland took first place, Joshua Atkinson, second, Tom Long, fifth, and Sam Peel, 10th, out of the 62 competitors. Sixty girls competed in their race with the girls’
team from Gisbum gaining a credible third place. However, the combined score from both teams was enough to put Gisbum in pole position.

AROUND 100 youngsters from Moorland Independent School, Clitheroe, took part in sponsored walks for chari ty.
, ■ Pupils from Years 6 to 10,
aged'between 10 and 15 years, trekked over a 10-mile course in Gisburn Forest, a new route that avoided the previous trail’s road sections and exposed elements of Waddington Fell. Meanwhile, younger chil
dren from five years old upwards tackled a shorter, but still testing, four-mile course, starting in the school’s 15 acre grounds and taking in a picturesque route along the River Kibble. This year, most of the
money raised will go towards the British Skin Foundation - the UK charity dedicated to supporting skin disease
research.' This recognises the fund-
■ raising endeavours of Moor land’s modern languages teacher and main walk organiser, Lesley Wilson, who plans a 300-mile cycle ride from London to Paris this autumn, again in sup port of the foundation. “ It was heartwarming to
see so many Moorland pupils, as well as several par ents and staff, walking in aid o f charity and being so determined to finish,” says fellow organiser and junior teacher, Dermod Kuddock. “We all agreed to donate
most of the money to Les ley’s nominated charity, so she appreciates that the whole school is behind her, when she embarks on her marathon bike ride.” ■ Pictured are the youngters taking part in the sponsored 'walk, (s)
